Par4QC the thought was “we can sell these if we call them a mini driver and not encourage people to try to hit it off the ground”. It’s a big 3 Wood in reality, but that where most people are really better suited, shorter, heavier and more forgiveness than a 3 wood. It blends the lines pretty well. Honestly, it’s probably a better fit than any off the rack driver for 85% of non professional golfers because the better contact/control will mea more forgiveness them than the “extra 15 yards” they CAN get out of a longer driver.
Yes, I know there are 3 of you here that prefer a longer driver, there’s no one size fits all, but most will agree, shorter = more fairways. More fairways = easier second shots = closer to the green/hole = better scores.
I think one of the major companies needs to do a “study” and show the increased accuracy with a mini driver and push the crap out of it like the 17 yards longer promo, except it’s “22% more fairways hit”. Let that drive the market.
