I have resorted to making my own dog food which is a base of Chicken thighs (easiest cheap meat to pull apart) or whole turkeys (cheap), and sweet potatoes with a fish oil tab thrown in a couple days a week. I then add to it, whatever scraps we have from our own meals. So they get a mix of veggies, meats etc.
I just buy family packs of thighs, put them on a foil lined sheet tray and bake them in mass (2 trays at a time = 3 family packs). I do the same w Sweet potato, use the mandolin to make them into French fries and bake those too. One cook per week feeds my 2 dogs. The dogs like it, we have way less waste and my vet is a farm vet, said it’s a better option than dog food, just make sure they get some organ meet once in a while, so I throw in chicken gizzards when I see them on clearance.
