sdandrea1 I would have thought that The Donald would waive Chinese tariffs on golf equipment
Maybe he will since he loves golf. But this is the problem. Tim Cook of Apple can get a waiver, but what about smaller companies that don’t have access. You can’t pick and choose who gets a waiver. That can lead to corruption.
Also, people think manufacturing is coming back. Not likely. We’ve transitioned to a service economy years ago. The time to have fought manufacturing jobs being outsourced to cheap labor countries was 30-40 years ago. That horse has left the barn.
The average Chinese worker makes ~ $500 a month. If we were to bring manufacturing back in addition to taking years to build facilities and the cost etc.. Prices would have to inevitably increase substantially because of labor costs.
If Apple iPhones were made here they’d cost $3500. I’ll just add this as well. Trade deficits are a red herring. Vietnam can never buy from us what we buy from them. They don’t have the economy to have equal trade with us.
I have a trade deficit with my hairdresser. For over 10 years she’s been cutting my hair. Every 6 weeks I pay her $20.00 plus a $5.00 tip. She’s never bought anything from me. 🙄
China has been a bad actor on trade for years. But they have the leverage. They can play the long game. We have quarterly earnings here etc.. We buy ~ 39% of their stuff. Which is significant. But their biggest trading is with other Asian countries.
Anyway, if something doesn’t change soon. Prices are going up including golf equipment. Unless they get an exemption. lol
