The pic is on my phone (iphone if that matters), but not on my pc as I type this. Not sure why since they both run Chrome, but it has never shown on my pc and so I also didn't know there was a picture in the OP until I saw it on my phone this morning.

Typhoon is it one of those mats where you can see impact point and direction? I have one of those and will use it with my net sometimes. That one just looks like a mat though.

Very likely hitting off mats hurts his hands or elbows so he wants the extra cushion. He just hasn't considered what the extra height is doing to his swing, or doesn't think it matters. Years ago the only place near me never replaced their mats, they were thread bare and placed right on the cement. They would beat the Hell out of your joints. I thought about doing something like this guy is doing .

That's how all the mats I hit off look. Now obviously they're all one piece so your ball isn't elevated like that but they are that thick. The mats you guys have down just look like outdoor carpeting with little to no cushion. I can see why he brought the extra mat.

garyt1957 But the ball is 2" above your feet regardless. If he put it next to the mat on the pavement it wouldn't be so bad.

I am fortunate enough that, at the range I use for practice, I can hit off real grass about 95% of the time.

Typhoon Agreed. I think it's a bad idea. The other option would be to bring a much larger piece of it to stand on, so that you would be on the same level as the ball.
