Love to hear you guys discuss the playability differences and how it relates to the 75-80 mph driver swing and the 50 mph 7 iron swing.

Typhoon I've never shot below 80 (81 is my lowest). For a while, that was strictly due to my ineptitude in the short game as I did actually hit a lot of greens in regulation during the 90's and early 2000's. Those I weren't on were usually close misses. However, the financial and time demands of marriage and raising a family took me completely out of that mode and now I'm not very good in any facet of the game. Problem is I have very stiff and inflexible body that requires me to practice or play at least once a week to maintain any semblance of a decent and consistent swing and no matter how many times I promise to make time for myself to do it, I never do.

Typhoon John, I'll tell you right now....if a player cannot 'control' the ball....spin, shape, etc., a 3-4 pc ball is not going to help. And if you can 'control' the ball, and are not scoring under 90-85, then you are simply wasting money.
Same goes with the putting of those balls. A ball is not going to help if you are 3 putting a lot of holes.

I shoot between 72 and 81 90% of the time, many different courses. I use a lot of 2 pc. balls. 3-4-5 pc. will make not 1 stroke difference. Had 2 HIOs with 2 pc. balls also.

My ego is not as big as my left nut.
But my brain barely fits under my hat!! 😉

And....there is no 'science' behind it. Only what someone chose to write.

I'm just wondering where this thread will end up.

I went through a Bridgestone ball fitting years ago. The ball they recommended was pretty much what I prefer to play.

Your Callaway Hex pic and Rex talking about it being a 4 piece ball led me to make this thread. And it’s a riot to watch! And it’s not a sales thing because everyone puts out 2,3,4 and 5 piece balls.

Yet you say...it is not about sales.

And I've never seen anyone write an article about how good XXX brand/model of 2 pc. ball performs; it's always how bad they are/what they won't do.
Wonder why that is?

I 💯 Agree! I know that the 2 piece ionomer won't spin like a 3 piece urethane, but what are the performance differences between a 45 compression Wilson duo and an 85 compression Callaway Warbird? Publications have no problem detailing minor difference between drivers (even budget ones like the Kirkland) but they avoid meaningful differentiation of 2 piece balls like the third rail. Again, I GET IT...multi layer urethane balls spin more! But a comparison of 2 piece balls besides "they are all the same" would be if interest to me.

Try using the internet like most people do. Put down the flip phone, Do some research, learn something. Don’t wait for everyone to spoon feed you. If you did this you wouldn’t sit there and complain about ads, you’d see they’re only ads…. You need to dig deeper and see how things work and work for you.

And I’m not talking about sales, we’re talking about how the ball works with slower clubhead apeeds. I never talked about sales… get the $$ out of your head, we’re not talking about that…. It was in the title. The reason you don’t hear about 2 piece balls …. There’s a reason for that. Go look it up. Again, we’re talking 2 piece balls vs 3.4 and 5 piece balls with slower swing speeds.

As far as working, yes most of them work well with my swing speed. In fact, just a few years ago I hit some of the longest drives I've ever hit with the TP5. The ProV1, Srixon Z Star, Callaway Chrome Soft, and OnCore Elixr are all balls that go as far as any other ball I've ever hit. They do spin well on short and mid-range shots, even at my swing speed, which most, or perhaps all two piece balls don't. I've tried them often and will buy them at a discount sometimes for use. I don't use them on a regular basis because they don't improve my score at my current level and so aren't worth the extra cost to me. If I start playing enough to gain consistency I might move to one premium ball permanently and it would probably be the Z Star, but right now I don't get additional help from them in the scoring dept.

My swing speed doesn’t fit your parameters but I’ve never hit a 4 or 5 piece ball before…only 3 piece and a couple 2 piece here & there…TF Gamer was a 2 piece right?…yeah I smoked that one on more than one occasion several years back.

I have been tempted to give the TP5 series a go sometime this season though…after a prolonged discussion that I had with one our assistant pro’s recently…we’ll see

VigilanteTrail Until recently that was a 3 pc. Last year it became a 2 pc., but I think for a while it was advertised online as a 3 pc still and there was some negative feedback on it.
There is a Rick Shiels video on youtube where he's hitting some full shots with either a pitching wedge or 9 iron and they are drawing back with the amount of SPIN that he's getting.
I still have a few boxes of the older gamer and while I don't think it has the control or drop and stop of a TP5X I thought it was a nice compromise of performance and affordability.
Last year I hit what I thought was a very average tee shot with one and I was a little surprised where it landed.
I gave one to a buddy last year and he hated it, but he was more of a bump and run kind of guy that professed to hate spin. I think he would hit longer tee shots if he used a ball that spun a little more as my guess is that he probably swings his driver at between 80 - 90 mph, but that's his choice.
I introduced him to Bridgestone E6 balls (original) after I tried them and he's been looking for them ever since. To me that ball was a spin killer. I liked it off the tee, but that was really it.

I never mentioned MY parameters… has nothing to do with what I asked in the OP. I simply asked that you guys research something online. Don’t care what anyone does with the info but it’s a good learning experience.
