I went downstairs and cleaned out the drain on the washing machine. Used a plastic paint tray to catch the water but you still miss🙄. Man did that smell. Cleaned up the filter looking thing that pulls out as well as whatever else I could. Put some silicone lube on the o ring and closed it back up.

Somebody has way too much time on their hands or is hooked on cocaine and cannabis. 🤣

Typhoon Ours used to always be filled with hair ties and rubber bands for braces. Now it's hardly ever got anything in it. Washer & dryer are the oldest appliances now; I'm assuming one of them will die soon

Rickochet Anyone ever tried putting a big plug of chewing tobacco between their butt cheeks?

This is what being retired is all about.

KCee Somerimes the washing machine starts to smell and it’s from that. There was really not much in it… just needs to be cleaned out.

Typhoon I bought some gel cleaner off Amazon that cleaned up the gasket quite a bit. Also ran some of those cleaner pods through it, but not sure what that did.

Our gasket actually leaks a little bit at times, but an old dishtowel catches it. My kid somehow closed the door and ran it with a piece of clothing inbetween the door and gasket and it put a permanent crease in it. A couple pieces of electrical tape help seal it. MacGyver would be proud 😁

I have never heard of this being done and have no desire to try it myself. I was just curious to see if any Buzzer would admit to it. 🤣

KCee cleaning the washer gasket? Shit I always used lemon lysol liquid to clean that. After doing that I would run the same lysol through the washer2 quick cycles. No issues until the next time. It does help if you don't close the door all the way after every cycle.

Walterjn Yes we always used to close the door to the washer (front loader) and it wouldn't get to air out and the gasket gets moldy. By the time we started leaving it open the gasket seal was black. I couldn't make a dent in it with any regular cleaners, but this gel cleaned it up quite a bit.

I'd like to replace the gasket, but the dryer is mounted on top of the washer and replacing the gasket without taking the top off the washer looks to be a huge pain. The leak is literally just a drip every so often so a paper towel would catch it. If it really starts leaking or if they just die I'll replace them as they are older appliances. Both have lasted more than twice as long as our refrigerator and dishwasher.

Rickochet The old cowboys used it to stop the bleeding.
So there is that much going for it's use. 😂🤣

Rickochet Move to Random Thoughts please. And, how did this random thought happen?

KCee We usually use the “venting “ cycle after a wash. If not we leave the door open so it doesn’t get moldy . I clean the gasket now and then around the door but it’s always fine.

When was the last time anyone saw laundry outside hanging on a clothesline? I can remember my granny's open top round washing machine that had the double roller ringer built in on the top. She had big bars of brown soap that she would cut up into the washer. The wringer was electric and didn't require hand cranking. She would wring it into a big wicker basket and take it outside to hang.

Today. We have a number of Amish or Mennonite living in the area. Common sight.

KCee the ONLY reason I even know about moldy door gaskets is because boss lady had that issue and sent me to her place to deal with it.

Rickochet An old saying, at least where I came from......'haven't laughed that hard since Mom got her tit caught in the wringer'.
Say that today, no one knows what you are talking about. Unless they are old.😄
