[deleted] IMO the shortest * in play or penalty. There are the plugged in lip of bunker/steep bunker/stymied scenarios.

jmo, but an OB ball is not a playable ball, therefore not a 'worst' case. 'Worst ball in play' is reasonable, for the rules.

Short course, the worst guys might be good to hit and iron off the tee. Depends what their worst club to hit is. A little bit of thinking involved. Using Rex example of a 350 yard drive in the rough or 150 center cut. Granted you said there is no rough so say the 350 is in a divot….

I agree. There's potential for every group hitting 3 of every tee. I like the idea of worst ball "in play."

[deleted] That is how I do it at the fundraisers I am at.

They all make a donation to the charity or group. $100 for the team and $20 of that goes to prizes for the event. They all tee off and I am the one who tells them what drive they need to use. Of course they are on their own after that.... Golfers don't cheat. Do they?

Par4QC May not be more than 3-4 scores under 50.

Years ago we played a 4 man scramble at The Palms in Mesquite,Nv.
The wind was blowing +20 mph all day,our score was a respectable 59.
The last score announce rather unceremonially,was a 48......and they all had the same last name!🤣

It was a small event. 20 guys, 5 foursomes. I was in the last group and watched everyone tee off. Every group except ours was playing their second shot from the trees. It went on like this, for the most part, all day.

Every group had at least one 20+ handicap player. We had a guy in our group that I believe played like Steve. His driver topped out at about 170 yards so the rest of us just hit hybrids off the tee. I don't think the group in front of us hit their 2nd shot from the fairway once.

What’s mind boggling is how/who decides what the worst drive is in the group. Do you take Steve’s topped 170 yard drive in the fairway that leave you 150 in or the one in the trees 50 yards from the green that you can punch out and roll up onto the green.

What was the “winning” score? First prize a ball retriever?

A little off topic, but still in the same vein.

I help a couple of hundred charities per year with their fundraising.
Of course, I have been doing charity & corporate outings for 47+ years now.

One day, at a local course that I am at many times per year, the owner of the course was on the microphone outside, in front of all the 15 players waiting in their carts.

He was telling them about their day, the games etc.

I was standing there next to him just waiting to head out.

He goes on to say that... "Today's event will be a Shamble format...."

One of the guys from the cart yells out to me... "Hey Mike, what does a shamble format mean?

I yell back "It means that you will be out here an hour longer than you thought you would be!"

The course owner stops his directions over the mic to give me a dirty look.

They include this format a couple times during our Couples league season at my club…different format every week and this is one of them
