A guy I played with a bunch a few years back had Parkinson’s and had those jumbo max grips. I hit a few drives with his drive and they went straight up with spin. Now thinking about it…. I wonder if it’s the reason Bryson is using those grips in conjunction with with a 5 degree driver 🤔

I started with standard grips. When someone mentioned a larger grip helping with a few things, I moved up to midsized. I now have karma super light jumbo grip on my driver. Might just have to try a jumbo max grip on it if I can find one, at some point. Still deciding what clubs to put the rest of the 10 grips on.

I have used Winn Jumbo grips for years. I bought one Jumbo Max to try. To me it felt like I was swinging all grip with no head on the shaft. YMMV. Here is a pic next to a Winn Dritac Jumbo. As the Donald would say, "It's huuuuuuge." 😜

Rickochet That’s the feeling I had Rick. It felt like there was no head on the shaft. Felt awful. Probably why it went straight up in the air. I never bothered to look at the weight of the grip because I’d never buy one. You would have to add a lot of weight to the head to balance it out.

Typhoon Bryson had LA Golf make a new set of irons specifically for him, with a lot of tungsten weight in the toe. Bryson says mcs the grips are so heavy, the center of gravity is shifted toward the heel. So they added the tungsten weights to bring the center of gravity exactly to the center of the clubface.

The implication is that if you use this grips on a normal iron, you have moved the sweetspot closer to the hosel.

I use Golf Pride Tour grips in the jumbo size. They are not as far as the JumboMax, and i think they are not as heavy, either. They also don't take away the feel of the club. I love them. I think they are the best grips on the market. Not too soft, not too firm. Your hand doesn't slip and the grips feel like neither sandpaper nor fly paper (i.e. they are not tacky/sticky). These grips are not cheap, but they are worth every penny, IMO.

This is interesting. I'm not sure why backweighting would shift the CoG of the clubhead, but obviously it shifts the balance of the club.

I have backweights in my irons because I struggle with light clubs. My 8-P don't have backweights because they're heavy enough, but my 5-7 do. After doing that I tend to miss the 5-7 towards the heel whereas the 8-P I will more likely miss towards the toe. Toe misses have always been my specialty. I wonder if that is related to the backweighting. In years past I would use heavier shafts in my set and didn't need any backweights, but with 100g iron shafts I use ~ 10g in 7i, 15g in 6i and 20g in 5i.

Jumbo Max grips are incredibly light for how big they are.
Just weighed an Ultra Lite @ 42grms...that's less than most standard size grips.
The only downside I've found, they do take up more room in the bag.

KCee Backweights will make the head feel lighter. You’re “tricking” the swingweight scale. I’m hearing people here using 20 grams as a backweight… to me that’s a ton.

So you said you hit lighter clubs poorly…

How about driver shafts? Ping driver heads are a bit heavier than others so their stock Alta shafts are counterbalanced. HZRDUS yellow and blue are also CB shafts. So you hit any of those?

Typhoon Yes I like CB shafts. I almost always backweight my woods 15-25g depending on the grip weight. I've noticed that if the club is too light for me and not counterbalanced I will start the downswing more with my arms than with my body. Years ago I really struggled with the 4-6 irons. One day I stuck a bolt in as a backweight and found I could hit it so much better.

I have big hands and long fingers…..wear a XXL golf glove, so grip size is a constant hassle for me and I’m always looking for a grip that is the right size yet light enough so that it doesn’t eliminate the feel of the clubhead, and also one that doesn’t break the bank!

One year I used Winn Dritacks b/c they were light in weight but I found that I’d go through one of them midway through the season and go to the expense of re-gripping TWICE in one year….and as you know, Winn’s aren’t cheap!

Another year I used Lamkin Crossline Jumbos which are just about perfect in size for me, but weigh about 75-78 grams which is getting kind of heavy. These grips also seem to last FOREVER for me, so that’s a plus! I still have them on my wedges where weight isn’t so much of a problem.

This year I bought a Tacki-Mac bonus pak from Golfworks. Thirteen Tour Wrap Jumbo grips for $35 (less than
$3 bucks per grip!!! It’s a really good feeling “leather-like” grip, maybe a little small under the right hand, so I
added two wraps of tape (maybe should have added 3 or even 4), and they only weigh 67 grams. I hit balls at a
heated range earlier this week and the ball seemed to be going straight, so maybe I’ve found “MY” grip……IIRC,

Not that anybody asked but I use a method for this that I got from Howard Jones over at the big hitters forum.
I measure 10" from the butt of the shaft. I wrap a 2.25" length of build-up tape there. On top of that goes a 4.5", 6.75", 9.0" followed by the double sided grip tape. Love the feel.

azgreg I used to do something similar with skinny standard grips. It's a pain doing a whole set that way though. People would try my club and love that feel and then want me to regrip theirs the same way. Of course they only wanted to pay for the cost of the grip.....no thank you.
