I have been thinking about this one for days, odd because I don’t pay much attention to the NBA, but I think I have wrapped my head around it.
Dallas is concerned w Luka’s lack of dedication to taking care of his body, the fired their conditioning coaches that couldn’t get him in line, he brought in his own, Olympic trainers, still no real change. Guys his size rarely have long careers, and ones that don’t take care of themselves really break down quick. Having to lock him into a Supermax 6 year deal for $345M this coming offseason was not likely to give him more incentive to get in shape. They took the safe route and dumped him for an All NBA player in return. Talent vs age, the trade makes no sense, BUT if you look at the guys who have all world talent and have their careers completely derailed by injury, I actually understand what they are doing.
I have to think LeBron will take him under his wing and try to get him to take his conditioning seriously, if he does, the Lakers have made a great deal and might actually get something out of having LeBron around. If He stays blobby and gets hurt, it’s going to look great for the Mavs.
