Old blades

Have been experimenting with a mixed bag trying to get my distance back with my irons. Tried cavity, hi COR, graphite you name it and the best distance I'm getting is my old Macgregor VIPs. Rechromed and built to my specs I even hit the 2 iron reasonably well. Looking at the head design it makes sense. Lower profile in long irons, toe weighted muscle, minimal offset. Anybody hit blades better or am I nuts?

I have a set of MacGregor Heritage blades that I've taken to the range but never the course. I am surprised how good they feel...when hit on the button. I definitely need the forgiveness of my G20's though.

I like the looks of blades but with a 10 hcp don't have the game, which is why I'm playing Maltby MMB. They're blades that perform like the Maltby TE cavity back.

The Mcgregor VIP irons were definitely eye-candy for the serious player back in the early 2000's. But FFW to 2017, and if anyone can point me to a better looking blade than what Mizuno offers, I'm all ears.

Clean, sharp, beautiful... but oh-my-god-I-could-never-find-that-sweet-spot-enough-to-play-them kinda vibe.

There's really only one sweet spot on any golf club. The difference is in results of miss hits. I tend to miss towards the toe and these hang in pretty good. Smaller heads are also easier to square and seam to cut through rough better. I left them at the standard old lofts and distance is fine with nice trajectory.
