TPC Sawgrass was an awesome experience for me because of a friend from college that played with me and lives in JAX. He was working his way up the chairs of the sponsoring organization and had been volunteering for years so he knew every nook and cranny on the course. It was like a history lesson as we made our way around the track.

I was staying in The Lodge at Pebble Beach and had reservations at both Pebble and Spyglass over 2 days. I had let the proshop know I'd prefer to play Pebble twice but it was booked solid on day 2. I'm having lunch with my wife in the restaurant above Pebble's pro shop before taking the shuttle over to Spyglass and I was paged to pick up the courtesy phone. It was the pro shop informing me they had a cancellation and I now had the option to play Pebble again. I jumped on it and those two rounds are a lifetime memory.

Now that I am nearing retirement and fiscally conservative (very frugal), a green fee approaching $100 is my choke point. I played World Woods 3 weeks ago and their in-season rack rate is a little over $100 all in and I was prepared to pay it because of my friends in my group. But one of the Florida guys knew of a discount so the 30 hole experience was still north of a c-note but we did the 3 hole practice course and a 9 hole replay. What a great day!

World Woods is about 20 minutes from me. Their twilight rate is damn reasonable. Gonna try it soon.

Played Pinehurst 2 about 20 years ago, it was an upcharge of $150 or so, staying at the resort. I thought it was an interesting course in that it's really quite playable for mid-handicappers. Pretty wide open and even if you're in the trees, you can find your ball and punch out. A lot of chipping and putting from off the greens, so the primary sin is chunking it. I had a chance to play Pebble back then, too, but passed and played The Presidio in SF instead at 1/6 the price. At this point, I doubt I'll play anywhere at those prices, as I get older, I have less interest in travel.

Friends have purchased a retirement home in The Villages and the two courses we played there were boring. We'll be back to visit sometime and I'll give you a heads up to see if you want to join us @ World Woods. My MIL lived near there and I was watching it being built before we moved her back to Topeka and assisted living. Another friend in St Pete said he plays there in the summer for $50 and it is his favorite course (Pine Barrens) in the state.

Unless you are quite wealthy these are for the most part bucket list courses .
I'm pretty frugal but would not have any issue paying to play once. I've played the Ocean Course, got rained out after 9 ( might still have that rain check , probably not good after 20plus years 😉)

I wouldn't ever give money to anything with a Trump label but will be planning a trip to play Pebble, Spanish and Spyglass in the next couple years.

People are fee to do what they want with their money. some drive 15,000 cars other $100,000, some take vacations to Florida others to Bali .

I've played none of those listed courses and not much desire outside of Pebble. But it would be a last minute thing as only way I'd do it is if I was guaranteed good weather.

I'd rather play 10 $40 rounds than $400 for one round!

Sadly $40 only gets you a cart rental for 2 in my area unless your playing partners are sheep and goats

Had a chance to play Pebble back in the 1980 it was something like $150 and I was tempted, but at that time I was not really all that into golf. Today if I had the chance to play Pebble for $150 I would take it, but no course, in my mind, is worth 500 bucks. Besides my wife would be playing as well and that is $1000 bucks plus we would have to stay for a couple of days as well. We can go up in Bend, Oregon and play and stay for a full week for less money.

Got to play the Ocean course at Kiawah about 5 years ago. We had some guy who knew somebody... Think we pd $120.
We had 16 of us. Course is brutal.
Wind was 20 to 25... Average day.
I can say I played it, but not going back.
