I have been doing traditional wetshaving since 2009 and have tried/used every type of razor there is: cartridges, DE, SE, AC, straights, shavettes, etc.
I, too, find it relaxing to shave with older style razors. I hated to shave when I used canned gel lr foam and the latest Gillette multiblade cartridge. Now I really enjoy shaving.
My personal preference is shavettes, but I like DE razors, too, so I have adopted the habit of doing the first pass with a shavette and then doing a second pass with a DE.
I also enjoy making lather from shave soaps with a brush.
Oh, and for the shower, nothing can come close to an Italain or French triple-milled soap lathered with a loofah. Shower gels are mostly water and many of them aren't even soap (they are detergents). My second choice is natural soaps made by local artisans.
