HackerTed I understand that I will very rarely get out when I walk up to the counter, however having to wait 1.5-2 hours and still not get out doesn't make sense. When I walked up to the counter they had to have known that the chance of me getting out before 1.5-2 hours was slim and they could have said something rather than make me think I would get out in a reasonable amount of time. I could of then made the decision to stay, head somewhere else or go home.
Ted, my apologies that I didn't respond to your valid points.... yes, you are right about the scenario you mentioned. And that is very unfortunate, because that is extremely rude, on both counts. You shouldn't have to wait 90 minutes to two hours to get out, not if you've been told otherwise via a phone call to the facility. If you just show up unannounced, however... that's just the unfortunate chance assumed by a single some days. But you know this already...
Nor should it be expected that a single gets booted from a group a few holes later when out of sight of the clubhouse and told to go on and play ahead with the group he got paired up with. That is extremely rude.
The only time I personally would ever contemplate that scenario is if the guy who joined up with my group was playing unacceptably slow. To me, it has absolutely nothing to do with skill level and everything to do with playing at an acceptable pace and being a courteous golfer. And it sounds like you are more than courteous.
I can understand your frustrations, and I wouldn't blame you for feeling like an outsider in those situations.
I hope you can find a better facility to enjoy the game at... sounds like a new venue might be in order. Keep trying. We're not all dickheads. Most of us are decent chaps, like yourself, just trying to enjoy the game the best we can.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
