Indoor Golf… Do You Partake?

Well it’s that time of year here in the Northeast. Tomorrow night I start back working at our Indoor Golf place. Probably get a round in tomorrow night and hit a bunch of balls. That’ll be the routine all winter.

Do any of you partake in indoor golf?

Yes. I may go tomorrow. Usually, begin after Christmas going once a week. Hit balls, chip and play simulators when available.

Used to do league but I quit that, don't get much enjoyment out of it, but I will go at least once a month to keep the swing lube going. Every other week is about right to still keep the glutes activated 🙃

I don't enjoy "playing" a course but will hit balls very occasionally, like if I'm going south where I'm going to play. Chipping, pitching and putting are rreally tough on screens for me.

We had an indoor place 10 years ago with 4 sims. We laughed when one of our buds would use his putter and plumb bob the screen. 🤣 I never really liked the sims but it was a good chance to meet with the buds, hit some balls and the place had a nice bar and grill. Unfortunately they had zero biz in the summer and it maybe lasted a year.

I go with my son to an all automated place 20 mins away, and it's 24/7.
Private bays, good price, decent balls and mats, can have 4 people max, no alcohol.
Courses are ok, mostly Korean, but they change them semi-frequently.
Software is easy to use as well.
It uses Impact Vision in the regular bays and has Trackman and Swing Vision in the upgraded bays. The practice range in those bays is cool. I lurk. lol
Of course, I have a Virtual Bag for use in there only.

Never done this. There's a place right around the corner from our Phoenix house but they want $60 hr.

azgreg Its around 1 hour for one person to play 18. 2 people would need 2 hours for 18. You can turn off putting and get in 27 by yourself in an hour

My regular group goes a lot, but I only go a couple of times before our FL trip. Now that there are more places open nearby I probably should check them out and see how they are for the price. I do find just hitting balls in my garage seems to help my tempo and contact more than anything else. With a launch monitor I get too focused on direction and distance....plus I have better booze at a much lower cost 😉

We tried it ONCE…..”played” Pebble Beach. It took 4 of us almost 4 hours, but without walking between shots, it seemed like forever standing around between shots. Never again. I do like to use it as a driving range to keep my swing in shape every few weeks or so through the winter.

fatshot One time 4 of us went it was really slow. Almost every shot you needed to use the PC to aim where you wanted as it almost never defaulted to the center of the fairway or green. I think it took us the full 4 hours to play and you only had to putt once every hole. Didn't help the dude came in every 5 minutes to try to sell us more drinks lol. Never went back to that place.

Here in Vegas just about every course uses mats on teh range.

colej Depends on the mat for some people. I never have any issues other than one year going out on a warm day in the dead of winter to hit off mats. The problem was the ground under the mat was frozen and my elbows were killing me.

Golf Cove in North Haven, had a similar experience. PC was inconsistent and we needed frequent tech help. Made it so, we could not finish 18 holes with four guys. Frustrating and not as much fun as we anticipated. They then wanted us out due to next booking.

KCee Byob at our place. The thing is the time slots are booked so you have another person in right behind you most of the time. We try to leave sometime between tee times just so you can finish the hole your on if time is up.

Indoor place where I went. $15 to hit balls, chip and putt all day if you want. $20 if you you use one of the trackman or simulators. Went today, they had snow on the ground and opened late, so the place only had a few of us there.

This absolutely the key. NO putting and set auto gummies at something reasonable. It can be a slog if playing with folks who aren't used to SIM golf. There is one thing worse than waiting on the course and that's waiting on the SIM🤮. Used to play league and there was the occasional group of guys in the slot before me/playing partner and they'd go over and the attendant wouldn't do shit about, so we'd schedule at a time that was first or make sure no one was scheduled before us.

Typhoon If you think about it long enough, you'll realize that hitting off mats is like hitting balls above your feet. Kinda like the idiot fitters that used lie boards.

Par4QC Not if you are standing on the same mat. But otherwise, yes. And I agree with you on the lie angle boards.

rsvman2 Around here the driving ranges all have the extra mat where the ball sits. Haven't been to any of the newer inside ones, or the ones with sims, to see how they are. I did play on a sim several years ago that had the extra mat to hit off of, even a 'sand' area on the same mat. Horrible.
