Sneakylong You couldn't graduate high school without passing a civics test and throw in an economics test.

Had to take a whole year of that my senior year of HS!
And the teacher was a 'teacher', not a 'professor'. Was taught/tested on as it is, not how some one person 'thinks' it is. Huge diff!
(Yes, someone did have to write all the books, I realize😉)

I had some great teachers of civics and history as well. Really fantastic. But that's where my interest lies. It seems to me for far too long civics and history have taken a back seat to math and science.

So much so that too much of our electorate is uninformed. And when you have an electorate that lacks knowledge they're susceptible to disinformation.

He was asking if it ever happens in my mediations. It does. Sometimes after hours of back and forth, but not everyone is so entrenched in their positions that they can't empathize with an alternate view and make a compromise.

Walterjn I can try to explain my view points if asked. It's just not something I wave around.

Innumerable efforts are offered to that end. Though it might seem an echo chamber, there are those of us, typically like-minded who didn't and don't always agree. Some worthwhile discussions did ensue and they lent additional perspective for many of us. Typically, it required reading. Seems a skill or practice few engage in these days - particularly in our society at large.
