Par4QC I'm doubting there are/have been, many(if any) of these(discussions) in the Hazard.
Again, you can't have a discussion if you can't agree on a set of facts. Their is no such thing as alternate facts. The real problem today is disinformation and civic ignorance.
Imagine walking in a busy mall. Half the people you pass don't vote. And way too many that you pass can't name their Governor, Senators and Congressperson.
Way too many could not pass a citizenship test or a high school civics test. Couple all that with much of the electorate don't read a newspaper, watch the nightly news and get their information from social media which is a wild west of disinformation.
If I were made the czar of public education. You couldn't graduate high school without passing a civics test and throw in an economics test. Again, we are a civically ignorant (lack of knowledge) country.
We do get too wound up over policies. Policies can be changed. System of governments are a different story. Every President in my lifetime (I'm 69) has governed within the 40 yard lines. Center left to center right.
Civic engagement is at the heart of what the founding fathers gave us. But as I've said before, any meaningful engagement can't be devoid of fact, reason and coherent thought.
