Weirfan At least not now, old guys Payne Stewart, Paul Azinger and Mickelson wanted to win. Wanted to shut up player s like Montgomerie. European Tour was/is considered second tier, so that is motivator. Clearly Europe always want to win more. No winning about picking 2 LIV players on their side. Additionally, the way Captains pair up their players during European Tour events help them know each other's game better.

Bryson may be the sole US player that wants to be there each time. Does not seem to affect the US players when they lose, why they kept complaining about the money.

Before the envelop rule only 10 out of 12 players played the singles leaving 2 subs. Harris "envelope" English obviously would not have been picked to play the final day. Now it was 11 out of 11 available players against the best 11 out of 12. Seems more than fair. Claiming a win by injury is bad sportmanship, it's golf!!!

I don’t know about you guys, but I think the behavior of fans is atrocious. There is no need to be showering any player with the F-word in chants and saying personal remarks about them too. You cheer for your side or player. You don’t jeer and ridicule opponents. None of this stuff should be allowed just because you bought a ticket. I’m embarrassed by the minority of idiots that are allowed to misbehave without being punished. Kick ‘em all out I say.
Now for something positive. It was nice to see the US team not go down so easy on the last day.

I turned it on expecting to see the slaughter continue. Was very pleasantly surprised to see a slate of mostly red. Actually stayed on that channel and watched. Didn't quite make it but it was definitely more interesting than expected!

iirc, if only 4 players are available to suit up in basketball, that team forfeits a 'win' to the opposing team. Same can be said of other sports.

Golf is stupid, I guess, now in modern times. Used to be if a round was scheduled, it was played as scheduled. Weather be damned. Even snow on the ground. Play on!
And if injured/unable to play the scheduled round......you lost!!! Same as now in all tournaments. Injured, withdraw, someone else wins.

The envelope rule needs discarded. Obviously. It helped the European team by not having to 'win' 2 matches.
U.S team had 1 less chance of a 'full' point score.

½ point to each side does not make any difference to a tie. With no match and no points there would be only 27 points in total and Europe would need a score of 13½-13½ to tie and retain the cup instead of the magical 14-14.

garyt1957 it wouldn't matter as they would just adjust the points needed to retain or win ...it's a mute point. USA caught a break with this anyway as Harry likely would have lost so the 0.5 points is a gift in this instance. It could work out the other way too, but in this particular instance it worked in their favor.

USA needs to do some analysis re day 1 and 2. IMO they are pretty lost on that front....and it's top down....picking a guy for Captain who would have otherwise been one of the best players on the team 🤔 Who does that--> 🇺🇸

Actually, not obvious at all.
Maybe refined to allow a substitute, like the "old days" when only 10/12 guys played the singles.
In any case, the US has used the envelope rule to their advantage in the past, so nobody should be bitching about it now. It's all there in writing, with some of it's use being "unwritten" in the spirit of it.
