Have you ever done this before?

Tonight I had a bit of time, so I decided to go hit a bucket at the driving range of my local muni. I took PW, 8-iron, 6-iron, and driver, and a couple of alignment sticks.

Because of a lot of recent rain, they forced us to hit off mats (we usually hit off grass at this range).

Anyway, the red flag was at about 136 from my mat by my range finder. I warmed up with a few PWs, then moved to the 8-iron. I hit a few great shots with it, and a few that were not as good.

And then, it happened. I pured it right at the flagstick. It was maybe an inch left of the flag, at most. I saw it hit the green, then it hopped very slightly right, and then disappeared into the cup.

I have never hit it into a hole on a range before. I was happy that I hit a good shot, but there was none of the euphoria one gets when one hits an actual HIO on a golf course.

But still, it was pretty cool. I didn't even tell anybody at the range. Not sure if anybody would have cared, anyway. So now i'm telling you guys, and wondering if any of you have had this experience before...

rsvman2 Practice hitting to a target, now you tell me. 😎 The ranges I've been barely have anything to hit at. The course I live on a desert range that slopes seriously up hill. Nothing to aim at.

To be fair to New Mexico, there is lots of desert and scrub land here. More than Israel.

Great shot rsvman2! Hope you have a bunch more. I holed out twice at 2 different driving ranges. one was 100 yds. & the other was at 150 yds. The first time i couldn't believe it. I have holed out 7 times for eagles but still waiting for my first ace!

Anytime you hole it off the green it's a great thing. Keep up the magic.

I thought it was interesting that there are holes to hit in on the driving range. All of them around here that I've been to have flags just stuck in the ground, there is no hole at the base of them. Sometimes they have a round "simulated" green, but no hole. So I have aiming points, but no way to make a hole-in-one on the range.

My experience also. And the grass on the "green" is longer than fairway grass

johnnydoom I'd venture to say, there's cups out there, otherwise the flag wouldn't stand up. We have cups in all our target flags and yardage markers, on our range. Just that the cups are grown over, more than likely.

Not a hole-in-one at the range but this kind of relates. I was at the range with the guy who was introducing me to this addiction and he hit one within 3 - 4 feet of the flag (tough to tell exactly) and the shot measured 114 yds from our station to the center of a slightly raised island green. The grass on the "green" was long so this isn't like sticking one on a real green.

He smiled and said "think you can hit one inside me? I'm buying if you do".

I hit my 1st shot under pressure to within 2ft & he bought.

LBlack14 You are probably right, but they aren't visible in any way that I can tell.

I only have had 3 eagles in my life. One was a hole out from 160 yards on a par 4.
