That's just not true, I did.

I've learned that while I was hitting my 45* PW 110yds., I can now use my 47* AW and hit 112yds..
I now do not need to carry that PW around.

Some brands are offering HL or Retro Spec lofts. Maybe that’s a sign that they know that lofts have gone too far, at least for some people.

As @scotts33 has said and I have proven, the newer designs (hot faces, jacked lofts) aren't suited for all swing speeds.

sdandrea1 You and I, Steve being older seniors in the 70ish range usually always carry more longer metal woods than normal average players because we have a lot of these shots in a round to par 4 and 5's. I think you do as I do driver, 5 wood, 7 wood, 11 wood then irons. We are a special breed as we have embraced age and know what it takes to play golf without complete frustration. I think golf becomes much easier for players that can accept their shortcomings and find great workarounds to enjoy the game. Be what you are! Do What You Want, Be What You Are - Hall & Oates 😆

There is a large difference between what American society terms senior (can be anything beyond 50 and many retire early now at 53-55) and what the old way of thinking about retirement and senior age was back in the day (65). Seniors in my book are 65 and up. UP being the keyword. Many younger now think of anytime I can retire say 52 I am a senior, NOT! LOL

I hit a 9 wood yesterday at my demo day. Had a senior shaft. Man could you feel that load. Height was amazing.

scotts33 Yeah, The Champions Tour does seem odd when 50 is the age to play it. My local Am Tour has 50 for seniors also. But, my hometown yearly tournament finally added a senior division a few years ago and it starts at 65.

My Dad was 50 when I was born and I guess that is the reason I don't even see 70 as being 'old'. Maybe 80 is.🤔
And I never use the term 'senior' in conversations, only in print on sites like these, I say 'older'. If you write 'older', the young kids read that to be over 40.😄

Today I did a range shootout between a solid body Maltby STi 7i to a high tech Maltby TS2 7i. Same 80g UST shaft in each. Same lofts. The TS2 flies quite a bit higher. Maybe 10 to 15 feet higher? And slightly longer. I’m assuming lower spin with the TS2 but can’t tell.

My SS is about 70. I don’t know how slow you’d have to be swinging in order to see no difference. But for me, the extra height is important. I rarely experience unwanted jumps in distance so overall I think the high tech helps me.

Don I would say 70 mph with a mid-iron is about as low as one would want to go. Because of your single plane type swing you tend to load the shaft equally this is why you like the UST stiffer tipped iron shaft profiles which can tend to keep your trajectory a bit lower than say a double planer that flips. You don't flip so your irons choices should be low CG irons or live with lower trajectory and maybe use urethane to get the ball to stop? I am also guessing you need medium width soles and no shovels. TX turf and their low rainfall at times tight lies. It's a lot to do with sole/turf interaction which not many account for.

The deck/patio & shed project should wrap up end of next week. I'll have to build a workbench and add some shelves in the shed, but it will all be done by mid September.....just in time to aerate, seed and compost. Hoping for some greenery before Thanksgiving.
