ode Using a dowel was not really a good idea but was good for demonstration purposes. Dowels are soft so they absorb glue, for binding, and hickory does absorb moisture easily. A dowel is most likely a 'secondary' product of any wood....not the best quality, thus weak. The video is just 1 of those 'grain of salt' type things.
Fun to watch, but wonder what results would be with proper stiffness he needed.
Plus I think it shows why the whipping was/is used/needed on hickory shafted clubs.
