Good luck with your project. You may still want to refer to www.golfworks.com for tutorials on how to remove/replace shafts, what items you'll need (ferules, epoxy, etc). That's how I got started in the hobby of
clubmaking many years ago.....

I bought my supplies from Golf Works and DTG when I had to replace shaft in my driver this year & Had happy outcome leading me to this project .
NEXT QUESTION :

Can you/ ANYONE predict flex/feel results if when I cut down Ode's driver shaft for my 3 wood that if I leave the tip intact, & only butt cut for length ? Cutting instructions call for 1/2" tip cut usually when using driver shaft in 3 wood , but won't the driver shaft be stiffer than regular flex when shortened from driver length to 3 wood length ? My reasons for this project is to switch down from stiff to regular flex . and for hopefully a bit higher trajectory . I may even like top end of senior /A flex , but I don't like whippy feel either since my tempo tends to be abrupt . Thinking to make total club length 42.5".
I look forward to hearing your opinions and advice .

That GD shaft you gave me to reshaft my 3 wood came this morning . I'm very pleased , couldn't believe USPS super speedy delivery all the way from Frozen Jewels ,WI. I was up kindo near you
in Kohler on business long way back in yrs. when I worked in Chicago HTS. Love WI in summer. It's all yours in Winter.
I'm waiting on .350 ferrules and Winn Excel grip from GWRX before I can epoxy it together . The old TM 3 wood 200 Steel head wt was 217 grams which suprised me compared to driver head wts.
Using a 43g grip and 42.5 " build length, the component swing weight estimater gave me a D3. I was intending to use 23 gram Winn Lite midsize grip but they are not available and maybe would push the sw too head heavy anyway. The stock shaft / club was D1, using the same SW estimater/ calculator .
It'll be interesting , for me , at least , to compare how reshafting -regripping in this way changes how this old club plays for me. Four years ago I could get to the member's parr 5s in two with it , on rare occasion when I got a good drive and caught good contact .

I gave up and bought 43 gram Winn Excels which provide better SW match for the higher cut wt. of this shaft than I had estimated . I do still have a UL 270 Cleveland and bought two grips from source on Amazon that turned out to be from UK. So now have one Winn Lite spare in kiddie which I probaby should put on my TEE 4 wood with 42 gram UL shaft.

Afterthought: I thought someone on GBuzz might have had a word or two regarding putting a good shaft on this antiquated 3 wood head. I've seen love for TM V steel heads, back on FGI but I've had & gave the V Steels away as " happy" to a buyer there. The margaing steel face on my old 200 reacts to solid strikes with a lot of pop, I hope that a higher launch tip and more swing flex would revive it.; Hoping for good things ! Fun project for me, in any case

If the shaft is regular flex at driver length, then cutting 1/2 inch off the tip will keep it at regular flex for a 3 wood. The clubheads get progressively heavier as you go through the set (driver is the lightest, 3 wood is a little heavier, and so on through the wedges). By tipping the shaft progressively, yes...you are making it SLIGHTLY stiffer, but that is needed to keep it relatively the same flex when you put it into the heavier 3 wood head. This way, each club in the set should feel relatively the same when swung. For proof of this go on line and look up the tipping instructions for most shafts.....then compare that to the weight progressions throughout the whole set of clubheads. I think you'll see the relationship between tipping and clubhead weight.....Hope this helps.

Your explanation makes perfect sense but leads into next question : since I think I'm nearing needing Senior flex, not tipping the last 1/2" off the shaft would soften the flex into that senior flex range?
