pellmell
My right elbow internally rotates too much (moves counter clockwise) going back. So I can’t physically do what they suggest.
I’ve figured out what works for me. For some getting the butt of the club to point outside the ball might work. I’ve tried that, but doesn’t work for me.
A lot of this instruction may work for some as described. My natural swing is to take the club straight back and it goes parallel at the top. On tape it’s a beautiful position at the top.
However, my first move down the shaft steepens, because of my elbow being too much internally rotated. So from the top it’s impossible for me to shallow.
What works for me (again) is to keep the shaft below my shoulder. Let my elbow do what it does (internally rotate) then feel like I swing under from there on the way down.
My swing feels short and flat, but on video it’s nowhere near as flat as it feels. My shaft at last parallel is very close to being in line with my right forearm.
Summary: My natural swing looks great going back and at the top (text book). But my down swing from that position naturally steepens. Shaft gets more vertical. Cannot shallow from there (for me).
I guess to describe my swing it would feel shallow to shallow. Or short and flat. But again on video it doesn’t look anywhere near that.
I’ve found my feels that work for me. My driver, woods, hybrids go about the same distance with this swing. But my irons go further. Don’t know why or care.
My divots are more bacon strips opposed to toe down divots. Most important is my ball striking is much improved. Used to be a toe hitter with my irons. That’s all changed.
