And there ya go!! Something I've preached forever.
I sometimes do it 2-3 times on Par 5 holes. 😫

Sometimes people don't listen to me though. Last round Jake was getting ready to hit his 2nd shot, 550 yd. Par 5, after(imo) laying up off the tee with his 5 wd.. I told him it was 260, from the rough, and an uphill lie.
He missed the eagle putt from 30'.

Par4QC I've read stats say to get it as close to the hole as you can, but I've done better laying back a bit on our #3 par 5. It's a dogleg left hole with OB left and it's not easy to draw one around the corner so even center of the fairway leaves me 250-280 in....I'm not getting on. Inside 100 yards the fairway really narrows and has some crazy slopes. There are also some trees that can block you out and 2 large deep bunkers. From 110 I have GW and a perfectly flat lie.

I always do this. imo, just natural for almost 99.9999% of golfers. If truthful. But, I still sometimes worry about getting to that 3rd shot and having a yardage that I have no club I can hit very well.
Then I go ahead and hit the 2nd shot.
Naturally.
1 shot at a time, when it's time. I don't worry about those 98 poor outcomes, but relish the 2 great ones. 😅

garyt1957 So I tried this on the back 9 yesterday after a pitiful front. Worked like a charm. As a lifetime OTTer, you can't come OTT doing this. Another problem I've always had is not being able to keep my head back. No problem with this swing thought. Hit some absolutely great shots and a couple clunkers where I lost my concentration for a bit. Now for the bad part, my back is killing me today. Not the lower back but more like the lower right lat area. Like really sore and I have a basketball game tonight.
I'll give it some time to calm down and will likely try it again one more time. Maybe those muscles just aren't used to being used in that manner. If it hurts again, time to move on. But man it seems to have potential.

Be careful I remember Dave Tutelman injuring his right lat in 2012. He gained club head speed and distance with the right sided swing but at 70 he told me, no more swing changes. I am going back to a left side swing and deal with the lost distance and play golf. He followed Paul Wilson more back then.

Most of my birdies in recent years have been par 5’s where I laid up to full wedge distance (70 - 110 yards). It’s usually what I do anymore since I can’t get within 50 yards in two on a 500 yard hole and I’m not any good with touch shots. Earlier this week on the two par 5 holes I botched the 2nd shot on both of them - which kind of ruins that strategy.

Still working on my putting. Think my practice is helping, but I left too many shots above the hole on very fast greens this week.

One other mistake I keep making lately is focusing on the pin rather than on my landing spot. I tend to pick a spot, but then get re-focused on the flag and it's amazing how many times I fly it right to the flag and then it's above the hole 😡

Not a bad problem to have compared to most. In my observation most come up short on approach shots / chip shots / pitch shots.

I have two rounds in with the graphite shafted rogue irons. Best two rounds of the summer so far and no lower mid back spasms. I swung my pxgs in steel one time yesterday and they felt pretty heavy so confirmed pretty much for me I’m not going back. Also ordered some midsized plus 4 aligns to regrip them. I even pulled down my old Cleveland graphite TA5s and going to regrip them. Kinda like the slimmer look of them but not sure they would make it into the bag just yet.

I was on mytpi.com and was amazed at all the cool drills and videos. There was even a section where it lists swing faults and you can click on things like Early Extension and it explains what is happening and how to correct it. All free.

I don't watch those 'instructions' vids. I've glanced at few through the years, and they all are basically the same.....trying to change your swing. I'm not gonna do it, dammit. It's mine. And give a crap what it looks like to anyone else.
Plus, those fellas do nothing but talk for 2/3 of their vids.

Hank Haney(like him or not, no matter) had a show on TGC where he had famous people on. I do not recall him trying to change a swing, and iirc, he even stated he would never do that. He merely had them do drills that would (hopefully) get them to hit the ball more squarely after several weeks. With the swing they had. Good show.

Perhaps he should’ve tried that. Charles Barkley was one of his projects on the golf channel. Initially he had some success, but it didn’t last.

Stan Utley was the one who fixed Barkley. Utley is brilliant here with Barkley. Watch this video and it will amaze you.

I've been trying to get away from 'hybrid dependency', and get back to the fun of hitting irons. 4 rounds in and and getting some chuckles when an iron hit goes as planned, and with good distance.

Yesterday I had a new set of irons in the bag, 5-PW and hit them all. After hitting the 5 & 6 a couple times, and being surprised, I figured I had the distances figured out for the others. Not so. The 7i & 8i were OK also, but when it came time to use the 9 or PW, I noticed the distances were short. I finished out the round, still using them at the distances I 'thought' they should/would go'....no dice to the end. And only 3 GIRs, with 1 being a Par 3 hole!!

Was thinking to get them checked(lofts) on Monday when I looked at the website and found this.....
5i=21.5
6i=25
7i= 28.5
8i= 32.5
9i= 38
PW= 43.5

(Yeah, I was actually hitting that 5i really good and high. Let it be known.....back when I carried full sets, I left the 5i home, due to inability to do anything with it except slice the hell outta it. Even bought a set of irons 1 time that was missing the 5, and smiled about it.)

The distances from 5-7 were nicely split, 8 not too bad. But now I see why the big drop off in expected distances from the 8 to the 9 & PW.

And Ima fix that shit come Monday!!👍😉

Putting was good finally, irons almost there, my left elbow was not at the target at address, it was pointed toward my left hip and giving me low lefts. Figuring that out on the last few holes was nice. Just have to look at the face on the High Toe wedges, I think they are open

I’m going to need to work on my left to right breaking putts. Not so much the long ones but the short ones.

Watching the ball disappear. I realized, at TopGolf of all places, that I wasn't staying centered through the ball. Started doing that and was making super solid contact with every swing. I have a nasty tendency to want to see my beautiful shot before I've actually made contact.

Since watching the TPI video on how to use the ground I’ve really gained distance off the tee. Carry distance was down this year but after 3 weeks I’ve seen a huge improvement. Our first hole this year if I hit it well I’d have 160 in. Today I had 122. Our third hole a good drive this year would leave me 80 yards, today I had 35. 6th hole I’ve had 75 most of the year. Today was 35. Our par 5 4th hole it’s usually a 7 iron for my second shot. Today it was a PW.
