ode yep, if the ball goes in vs skirting by, it’s a stroke saved. I figure it as this, you are supposed to have 36 putts to shoot par if everything goes right on the way to the green. For me, I can make up a couple of strokes on par 5’s if I get lucky and I’ll only drop one or two on a par 3 along the way (mental block with an iron off the tee apparently). So my score is going to come down to how well I play the par 4s in general. If I sneak a few putts in instead of 2 putting, that’s maybe 3 strokes I actually have the ability to save. I have a very high propensity to lose 3-10 strokes off the tee with something by going haywire. So putts are great and they can be the difference between having a shot to break 80 or not, BUT they sure aren’t going to stop me from exceeding 90 either. So while the old saying of “drive for show and putt for dough” is true, in a tournament/pro setting; for my game it’s more like “drive it in play so you can get to the putter and hope for the best” 😂
Example, I recently shot 91…. With 5 birdies…
