Yes, many rounds with new swing in graphite. I started airmailing the occasional pull hook........and that's new, but just occasionally.

Gotchya Sneaky. Agree, but scoring for me on my local courses has much more to do with my driver, wedges and putter than irons. My full iron shots are mostly limited to the 3rd shot on par 5 and the ocassional short par 4. Most of my full swings are with driver, FW, hybrid, etc. I was experimenting the other day.

I'm going to assume proper mechanics until I have more data. The ground is very hard here with a thin layer of Bermuda. If I keep hitting pain-free fairway shots, it's probably the shallower plane.

You know the golf swing starts from the ground up, which means your recent surgery not only helped getting rid of the pain but also improved your golf swing. You should be getting a few more yards than last year.

You don't realize how much of your golf swing comes from your leg strength until you lose it. In '01 I slipped on a wet floor and severed the quad tendon above my left knee. Months in a straight brace and many more months getting strength back. Playing golf it particularly showed in the driver distance. Unfortunately I did the same stinkin' thing to the other leg in '09. I will never get back full strength in either leg and my driver distance really shows. That plus just getting older every year.

In my irons I always like the True Temper steel offerings. When my local dealer quit carrying them I went to Apollo. I broke a bone in my hand playing golf (fell off ball washer) and after healing and resuming golf steel hurt my hand. I played graphite for about a year and it helped but I hated every brand I tried. I built a flex matched set on my NF2 and they performed ok but I never liked the dead feel. I later switched to TT Sensicore steel and like the feel of the steel again with no pain. As I "matured" I needed to back off on flex so I tried some FST shafts. Wow, what a difference. So much smoother than both the TT's and Apollo offerings. I tried the FST's first with the prosoft inserts but didn't like the feel. After I took out the inserts I really liked the feel and no discomfort. I take a divot the size of a flying squirrel so no pain is wonderful. About two years ago I backed off another flex and play the FST 115 at a senior flex and they feel wonderful.

I wish I'd return to being more picker than digger again . All I heard used to be hit down on your irons . Too much of any medicine is bad, but here I am, instead of too many thin shots, now too many fat. Really hard on the wrist , elbows. Graphite helps but one hard jammer on uphill lie into the turf really re-wakes up my tendon/ joint issues. (ninth hole after decent drive to center of fairway)
Glad to hear your steel shafts are friends again . Your experience got me to put the Mizunos back in my bag. I put ProSofts into the DG 300Rs last year when I re-griped and I so enjoyed again how a well struck iron feels. Mishits, not so much . . . As for joint pain , refilled my Mobic prescription .

Thanks! I took my DTG A Game blades out today. They are muscle back tiny headed butter knives. I keep them around because they are great to practice with - they acid-test the ball striking. Played 9 holes with them and scored well. They have senior flex steel Apollo Spectre Light shafts (ProSoft inserts) and felt good today since I am striking it well. This flatter swing plane is the tits!

It's never permanent with me. I have several sets of graphite shafted irons. PING Rapture, Dynacraft Prophet CB, Tommy Armour 845S, and some PING G20 clones, and they are staying in the herd. Playing golf 3 to 5 times per week now, so I have no expectation that I can play steel that much, especially on the hardpan, tight Bermuda fairways we have here. I have no qualms playing graphite and probably will have to all the time one day.

Have h tried moving the ball up in your stance and keeping your right foot down at impact...arms Ladd the legs?

I had this drill I called " the 4" drill". I take my normal set up and then move the ball up 4" in my stance. Keep the club soles where it normally is and hit the ball that is now 4" up in your stance.

Just something we get people to do at our place that hit down too much and dig pools for divots.

Had that elbow thing for a bit so I went to graphite irons but I play much better with heavier irons. Had a set of Loomis tour weight graphite shafts hanging around so I put in my favorite iron heads and presto, got my distance back and elbow stopped aching.

Normally I wouldn't say anything but we find it works and it'll save your elbows. I'd u have a hard time with it, at least u didn't pay for it!😃

You'll see how it works, pretty cool. I like it with the driver a lot. Ball waaay up and I sole the club a few inches inside my forward foot. Take it back and then hit the ball.

It feels so good that I remember saying " wow...that felt right again".
