DonM There is a lot nothing throughout the state. Las Cruces is the 2nd largest city with 115,000 folks, Albuquerque is 1 at approx 600,00. 3 hr drive between and nothing to look at, stopped once at a station off I 25 and the attendant said the bathroom is out back, meaning piss on the ground.
All will say if you are under a half-tank of gas, it is an emergency situation. Lots of scrub land.
We drive to Albuquerque for my son's medical at the Univ New Mexico Hosp
However, Las Cruces is built for GB geezers, many medical clinics/Hosp for the older crown and Medicare folks. just not many specialist such that my son needs. Hope this improves as my son (28) does not drive.
We sometimes us El Paso since only 45 miles away, but I find El Paso a risky place on good & bad locations.
Another nuance to Las Cruces, I don't see here in VA, is the "Las Cruces workforce", all joked about the meaning of manana. Just means not today but seldom does it mean tomorrow and so far, I can't people to show before 1100 on any day. They do the work right but no urgency. A plus, not once has any of these trades ask for more money even when the scope of the project changes. Cash means no tax, any other payments mean sales tax.
