10 deg. Louisville Persimmon Classic 50's driver 195cc on a 43.50" TT Dynalite "R" with a Star Sidewinder the true ALL American club. I like the steel shaft as the MoI/balance point allows me to "feel" the club head and swing the club. Teed down with short tee, small head and persimmon gear effect allows nice medium trajectory ball flight and more roll out with draw ball flight without hooks. Since, I play a Manuel De La Torre swing more centered ball position (about 1" forward of center/sternum) at address this allows me to have a more negative AofA and keeps my ball spin down.
I experiment with a Louisville Smart 2 persimmon head at 11 deg. and graphite at 44". Same technique and this head is a lower spin head with a more negative AofA. Bob Estes used this head as one of the last PGA players to use persimmon.
At 75 the gains from modern 460cc metal is slight the only advantage is the larger head allows more miss room. I have found thru the years as you get lazy with larger heads and more miss room my game doesn't improve. It's the aim small miss small kind of mind set. But each to their own. I also enjoy playing persimmon rather than metal. Love the click sound and like the thoughts I get from playing in the 60's, 70's etc. So true distance gains at my age ain't happening.
