My TM Sim Max OS 9 iron is 36.5 degrees and my PW is 42 degrees. I hit a couple of beautiful 9 irons into the greens yesterday from ~ 130 yards. Also hit a couple of PW's on the green from ~ 120. These are considered strong lofts.
All the shots were high shots and stopped pretty close to where they landed. A couple pretty close to the flag. lol My point is slower swing speeds need trajectory, not spin to stop approach shots on the green.
What @Typhoon and I have been saying in past threads is these modern strong lofted irons fly plenty high and far. The manufacturers have figured out how to strengthen the lofts and get a lower center of gravity so they fly high.
I would say forget about the lofts on the irons. Just find out what 'tool' in your bag gets the trajectory and distance you need to hit the green from a particular distance.
I love technology and always want more innovation, not less to make the game easier and more enjoyable. That's why I hate the USGA. I want the manufacturers to be unleashed to make the game easier, not harder for the masses.
