Might perhaps make it easier to brush them out without a stop on both ends. I'm not planning to get one to try that out, but that would be the only possible benefit I can think of. Not sure it matters much with stainless steels, but I use to notice, way back when I used forged irons, that the end of the grooves was the most likely place to get a rust spot.
