In fairness, not totally accurate. They can only vote for 4 guards so lots of players left her off their ballot. Totalled up she came out 9th but it's not like they voted 1-10 and she came in 9th. With all the games she's missed and the bad streak you can make a decent case she's not top 4 in the league for guards this year based on production, not potential or perceived skill.

Totally agree. And her last 3 games did not help with 'show' nor stats. But no doubt 'popularity' came into play when she was left off some ballots.

Voting for things like this seems ridiculous anyway. Music awards, athletic awards, etc., are basically built on popularity, (or hate), more so than production. Esp. when it comes to 'outside' voting, fans and such. Case in point is Angel not making the starting lineup. That was nuts, but she did ask for it.....go to work, be humble in what you do.

Wait til they get their asses handed to them again by a weak team. Then it will be....OMG......'when is Caitlin coming back?' Tonight's game is against a much weaker team than they have been beating recently, imo. Let's see how this one goes. And what is said IF......( but I do want them to win btw)

If Mahomes were to be hurt in the 1st game of the season, and be out 6 weeks while the team won all the games, would he be the starter when he was fully recovered??

I was playing cards at the request of my family and didn’t get to watch the second half. Kelsey is a shooter and has games like that sometimes. The good thing with her though is that it never seems to be related to the game situation. I’ve seen her suck all game and then nail a three late when they really need it a few times. So I don’t worry about her too much because everything always averages out to good.

So tell me I'm nuts. When CC comes back she needs to be the third option on the team. Boston is option #1 in the post and Mitchell is option #2. CC is option 3. Mitchell is just a much better scorer than CC.
Everybody saying they need to play faster but they can't play fast with CC bringing the ball up under so much pressure . Let McDonald bring it up.
Then if you want to double CC when she's not even option 1 go ahead.
CC holds the ball too long, not all her fault as they pressure her and double her off picks but too often the shot clock gets run down too far and they have to force a shot and CC is not good going one on one with a short shot clock.
Or they can continue with the Pete Maravich syndrome and let CC dominate the ball and lose. Obviously CC fanatics won't like this but I'd like to see what happens for a game or two.

garyt1957 Not nuts. I fully agree with taking the ball out of CCs hands. Last 3 games the TO rate is way down. In all forms, that is points, missed or given away.(not always though) With the ball out of her hands, pressure is spread out.

They just made a mistake in signing all these players in the off season, and not quite sure where they thought McDonald fit with CC, Mitchell, and Colson already in place. Too many bullets for 1 gun.

Some on the team are just not taking shots....Lexi, Sophie. Some are only taking shots....Mitchell....many games with 0 assists or rebounds. And she can have really bad shooting nights at times, as do others.
They just, imo, do not have a complete team. Going to hurt like hell when CC returns. Long way to any Championship.

And the fouls......why do the Fever games have so many whistles, no matter who they play? Play is being stopped every minute of every game so far....for fouls. Easy math....40 minutes.....more than 40 fouls. 2 hour games at times.
Other league games sometimes have under 30, or even 20 fouls.

They win, they lose. Not really liking what I see so far. I was led to believe they would win them all.🤣

I’m of the belief that the Fever can run if the coach wanted them to. She doesn’t like that pace because she thinks it compromises defense. There seems to be some merit (at least in the women’s game) in that the defense seemed quite good in the Lynx and Aces games. Late last season when the Fever were running other teams out of gas, the Fever had no defense whatsoever. They were only winning because they were better conditioned than everyone else after the Olympic break. I know there have been men’s teams that were speed oriented and also played good defense, so it can be done, but maybe no coaches in the W have experienced it.

If Caitlin is going to be the 3rd option then Aari would need to be on the floor with her most of the time. Lexi and Sophie would have less playing time overall. Last year Kelsey took the pressure off Caitlin and then Lexi took the pressure off Kelsey. But now the coach wants inside out offense so guards aren’t often looking at each other as the defense shifts, so there are less passing lanes to defend now against the Fever. I think they tend to play better against better teams because those teams are less likely to feel the need to scheme a special defense.

I think they’ll need to run a 3 guard offense most of the time if they choose to continue the motion, and that will definitely hurt their defense if Caitlin is on more and Lexi is on less. If they run, Aari is Caitlin’s direct sub while Sophie spells Kelsey and Lexi. If they go motion Aari is Caitlin’s main outlet.

johnnydoom Right now the Fever are ranked 3# on offense and #4 on defense. That is with CC missing several games.
They are also #1 for points & % of, in the paint. 2nd in FG % and 2nd chance points. An overall net rating at #3. That says they have a great team, but are only at 9-9. 🤔

Steph has to be very careful with what she designs when CC goes back in.
They have had low TOs with CC on the bench the last 3 games. Just barely more than she would have singly, btw.

That 3 guard option means they would be 'playing short'. And would be more outside shots taken. We'll probably get to see how that pans out.

Yep, Lexi would be out of the starting lineup. Probably wouldn't work because CC is so bad on defense. But if she's not always handling the ball on offense maybe she could put more effort into defense. They're the same size, Hull is an inch taller and 2 lb.s lighter.

Lexi plays outside on offense anyway. I just think that Aari is the only one that Caitlin can outlet the ball to that will still play head up and keep the motion going. They would miss Lexi’s critical rebounding if she plays less though. I’ve noticed that Lexi has gotten quite good at shoving (uh I mean blocking) players out without drawing fouls. 😉

My opinion, and that’s all it is, is that the Fever haven’t been “playing” better. It looks like to me that Boston, Howard, and Hull all said screw it, we’re going to bang on the other teams the same way they do to us. And as it turns out, they are stronger as a group than the corresponding players they’ve faced. So far, the refs have been allowing it.

Not really, I just think they try to even it out. A lot of missed calls lately, going both ways. Boston is racking up a lot every game now, to the point she's being sat for spells, when she is needing to be in.

Indiana is #2 in team fouls, avg. 21/game. Fouls beat them last night.....9 in the 4th quarter! 24 total, the 11th time this season they've had 20+/game.
No wonder other teams 'go after' them every game. It's not just when CC is playing. Sparks forced them last night and it paid well.
