ode Another thing in those last minute reviews that doesn't make sense to me is this: if an offensive player has the ball near the sideline, and the defensive player slaps the ball out of his hands and it goes out of bounds, the ball should go back to the offense.
On a slow motion replay, it often appears as though, while being slapped out of the offensive player's hands, it is touching the end of the offensive player's finger last, so they give it to the defense.
But the game has never been played that way, ever. If the defensive player knocks the ball away from you out of bounds, you get the ball back. Period. It has ever been thus. So, unless there is an indication that it went off the offensive player's leg, knee, or foot, they should just award the ball back to the offense and play on. Those plays should not even be reviewed.
