garyt1957 Caitlin does do it, she just does it from 25 feet because that is where the defense meets her. If you look at the Rori video, the defense is packed in as though they are much more concerned with her teammates than they are with her. If Caitlin goes inside, she has to get past her defender and then she has someone chasing from behind her, plus someone else that will be rushing up to meet her in front. She’ll get stripped or blocked from behind almost every time she tries it.

It is a hard thing to do when double/tripled teamed most games. Only way she can get inside is the driving layup.
It's why she has so many assists every game.

I don't even want to see her doing it. With the 'hounds' on her at all times, she'd not be able to try many of them, & maybe just get some FTs. That would take away an assist to someone who is way more open and can make points easier.
jmo, but if CC starts trying those shots, they will lose every game.

garyt1957 I certainly don’t mind you disagreeing, but do you think Caitlin is not being met at half court or outside the 3 point line on every play? These defenders are not trying to stay between her and the basket as she moves forward. If they do, she’ll kill them with the step back 3 in normal games. Their sole job is to disrupt her 3 point shot and passing lanes by being as close as possible to her knowing that every other defensive teammate will leave whoever they’re on to meet her if she gets by. Meanwhile the initial defender hasn’t peeled off, but is grabbing and slapping at her from the side and behind so that she can’t step back to shoot or pass. No one else is defended that way. In the second half of last year they defeated it by running down court before defenses could get set. But their current coach doesn’t like that because it makes their own defense less prepared, so she changed things up to a “motion” offense. But the people they returned can’t win effectively that way (worst team in the league two years straight before Caitlin) and the people they brought in can’t play fast. And guess what, they only have one guard that sees the floor well enough to run that offense. Take her away and it kills the offense. So Caitlin is a sitting duck until they get it figured out.

I love Kelsey. She can't run the team, but she has speed, hustle, and a mostly good shooting touch. She's been a little down from range too, but she'll get it back.

Here's a few posts, nice to know it's not just me :
I noticed this in college. She never shoots going right unless it's a step back where she has to gather the ball with her left hand. Im sure this will get addressed in the off season

I always noticed this but when I pointed it out I got jumpeddd😭😭 Georgia Amoore did the same thing before but she knew she had to adjust her shot to be able to hit pull-ups going right. Her percentages dipped and that’s definitely a risk but she was still a good shooter. Caitlin’s mechanics need some tweaking but it’s def hard to pull off.

That’s one shot lol. I’ve literally been watching her for half a decade, she was once a good midrange shooter and she’s just now implementing the shot back into her game. This is off topic tho because my point is her adjusting her shot can benefit her in between game while also allowing her to shoot from that side of the floor. Georgia can shoot going any direction and her offensive attack was very well rounded. She had the same mechanical issues that Caitlin has rn so it clearly can be worked on while maintaining good efficiency. If Caitlin wants to go to the next level she has to fix that… it’s simple

Well I’m honestly not saying that this is a new issue. The point of my post is to say that it’s harder for her than would be expected for an elite right handed shooter bc she angles her body to the left. But most of the replies have ignored that part of my post.

johnnydoom She gets into the middle of the lane often, only to dribble right back out. She has plenty of opportunities to pull up or shoot a little floater but never does. I'm screaming at the TV "shoot it". Nope just dribbles out and now the shot clock has run out and they rake some BS shot. And no, not every other member of the team is there to meet her because she'd kill them with the pass. As I posted above, it's not just me that sees this. It's pretty much consensus that a mid range pull up is the big hole in her game. Even announcers talk about it.

Outside of a corner trap or directly under the basket, I've never seen a player draw as many defenders as she does and the players defending her are aggressive. I agree with Par4QC and thinks it will be folly for her to even try on most plays. And as far as consensus, I see none - just two camps and it depends on who is looking and what they are looking for. Just as I tell you I've seen her make several pull-up jumpers inside and you say you've never even seen one instance of it, you say she has plenty of opportunities to do it and I say I rarely see an instance where there isn't someone there to block the shot from behind or the side. The actual answer is probably somewhere in between.

Here's another interesting stat. 0-4 on floaters, unless she can bank them, 2-2 on those. Maybe she doesn't shoot them because she's simply no good at them?

She is not. Never could make them, although she's better now than when in college. To be fair though, most of the WNBA players I see don't appear to be very good at them. She wasn't even close to a good finisher at the basket when in college and would prefer to dump the ball off to someone else inside given the choice. However, she has improved much since then and makes most of her layups these days. And she will continue to improve the variety of shots she has as she grows. No player goes into any professional league with mastery of every element of the game. The difference is that most are satisfied with what they have, while some continue to develop. Caitlin is continuing to develop.

Right or wrong, the thing is they brought CC in to build(rebuild?) the team around. Those that couldn't adjust have been sent packing and they brought in several that have been through many systems, in order to do it.
But, it appears they are now trying to get CC to 'learn' into something completely different. And that is not the way it was planned, as far as I know about anything.
So...stop it!! Or pay the consequences.
Coach to the strengths of the individual players. It will all come out as 'team effort' in the end. With 'Ws'.

jmo, but at present, CC is not the 'star' of the team as everyone keeps saying. It is without question, Boston!

johnnydoom Edit to add - actually they found out that Aari McDonald could, but decided they need to keep the roster they have. Not sure if they are still trying to work something out.

1st off, they still can't sign her until next month, from what I've read. At that time they will have to let someone go before being able to sign her, and they have a Cap problem. Only way to make room is for Turner to go(which she def should).
But, if/when they do that, how does she figure in? Only from the bench, when CC is sitting? That's only a few minutes each game. When Kelsey is sitting....again only a few minutes. She can play, she can shoot, but she's only 5'6", so really cannot play forward. And Kelsey is getting over 200K, so she ain't sitting.

Might be nice to grab her anyway as I suspect Kelsey will be leaving next year. Other teams have been picking up players recently but none went after MacDonald. I think she is waiting for/has been told to wait for the Fever.

Actually that's only because I misunderstood the definition of floater😁. To me a floater is when someone is attacking the basket launches in the air early and pops the jumper as they are moving forward through the air towards the basket. She is no good at that. She's over 50% for shots between 5 and 14 feet and has taken 20 from those distances.
