Hairspray then blow grips on

Saw this on GolfWRX. Anyone tried it?

Cheapest Aquanet hairspray you can find at Dollar Tree, blue masking tape, (I usually use two layers) Light mist of the hairspray on the tape, blow the grip on with air, when the hairspray dries its tacky & the grip won’t twist & you can still blow it off.

When 2 sided grip tape is only approx. $.07 more than blue masking tape, per grip, why would I even bother to read the article, let alone use that method? To save $.98 per set of 14 clubs? I won't even bother to ask....what's the hurry??

When you put dumb + cheap together......well, I guess there just is no word.🤔

The dumb part was about the article's OP's use of blue tape and hairspray, thinking it was something new & great (not...not). Why not just use the normal 2 sided tape and not have to worry?
The miniscule cost diff was the cheap part.

It had nothing to do about the saving of/blowing on grips.

Not sure how to explain it any better.
A person can say &/or do dumb things, without being considered dumb. (see ex. that is typing this🤣)

Me too. I usually use Winn Jumbos that go for about $9 -$10. I have often decided on a certain set of irons 5 minutes before I head out and blow a set of grips off one set and on another in a few minutes. I have never had a grip twisting issue, maybe a Winn thing. The hairspray idea does sound interesting if it doesn't make grip removal more difficult or build up in the grip.

Rickochet I have been blowing on grips for about as long as I've been playing/ building my own clubs. Not once have I had an issue with grips twisting.

Same here - I've never had an issue with grips getting twisted, and I've been using an air compressor to install grips for close to 20 years.

(For what it's worth, I use masking tape underneath the grips - a few pounds for a roll that lasts me for a couple of years...)

I think I remember seeing a guy on YT using hairspray years ago. Weren't there clear grips where you would put a NFL bumper sticker or such on, use hairspray and then install the clear grip so you could see the sticker?

I can’t recall using any tape when I blew on some grips. Don’t recall any problems either. But then only ever did when I didn’t have time for the grips to dry.

I was out on the porch recently with my grandson. He found a night crawler in the grass. To mess with him a bit I told him I would give him $5 if he could get the night crawler back in the hole. He fought with it a while then went in the house. He came back out with a can of hair spray, sprayed the worm and it got as stiff as a stick. He then poked it back down the hole. I congratulated him and went inside for the cash. I came out 15 minutes later and gave him the cash. He noticed that there were two $5 bills and asked about the second one. I told him that one was from his grandmother. 😜

Walterjn works under golf grips, but ya really lose the feel if you try it under other rubbers.

I've been blowing grips on with no tape ......just right onto the shaft. They seem to hold and they are EASY to remove.

sdandrea1 I’ve had great success with blue painters tape with one failure. It was a brand new mcc plus4 on my driver last year. After two days it was unusable for my tournament. So I ordered a large roll of tape from Golfworks recently. I got two seasons out of my last grips which was over 100 rounds on painters tape. By then they were toast anyways so I’m going back to two sided tape.
