Old FGI Memories Thread
Par4QC I always missed Persimmon after he left.....for unknown reasons/causes.
He, along with a number of prior members, including JDerion and Blader got a little fed-up with the P&R sub-forum. All intelligent "liberals", they grew frustrated with some less than flexible conservatives. Fortunate for them they've been gone pre-2016!
KCee My wife said "fine" initially but then realizes I'll be golfing with "random guys from some golf forum" (her words) and shuts me down.
That's the best! My Ex used to go bonkers about what she called "your imaginary friends". That all came to an end when she met some FGI'ers in-person and then was gifted a set of women's clubs, donated and built for her after she'd contracted breast cancer. She even received a brief lesson from gwog in our backyard!
MidwayJ Yeah Ode mentioned that before. CoachSB apparently got caught with his pants down when that happened.
Although, their frank discussion pretty much accurately covered their assessment of several members, myself included. They were accurate and the faux pas was really funny!
I started out on 4GEA and probably became aware of FGI there. I was mostly looking for parts & info to build & modify golf clubs. Spent most of the time in the buy/sell/trade stuff. I read a lot of the conversations, but didnโt interact in them much, but found the talk entertaining. Somewhere along the way, Spuzz directed me to GB.
professor Three co-worker friends and I went on several annual out of town golf trips during the FGI days. When we went to Myrtle Beach, I arranged to meet up for drinks with an FGIer who lived there. (Can't remember his FGI handle.) My buddies thought it was pretty weird that I agreed to that without ever meeting him in person. One friend seemed to think there was was a 25% chance he hoped we were gay and a 10% chance he would kill us. After he showed up one of the things he mentioned was going to Desert Storm, and my buddies were amazed to learn there was an event like that for people who met on the Internet.

I spent most of my early FGI days in the equipment section. I was fascinated by the components I never saw anywhere else (SMT, Bang, Ashton, Alpha, Geek, Nakashima, Infiniti--the list goes on.) and ho'd a lot of stuff, lol. Later I spent more time in The Clubhouse but I missed some of the classic threads posted there.

As did I.
I was starting to learn about clubmaking and had many conversations with @dyno @Mcburbn , sandbagger and mack, and followed along with the advice from reddog and phineastoad et al.
Forever grateful for their participation in the clubmaking forum.
I did participate in the clubhouse, but mostly to shoot my mouth off. I hardly ever started any topics. Same is true to this day I guess. lol
As for the Secret Society (FGI mods) I learned about them when I went to AZ in 2004. Mack had his computer up and I saw it. Ramers asked me to be a mod and I said no, because that meant I could not be me. For the record, I did not receive any preferential treatment as I was suspended a few times. I am sure the society used up some bandwith discussing me. LOL
Another Steve Almo story. I was part of a group who helped organize a fundraiser golf tournament for my daughter's high school basketball team. I asked Steve if he would donate a club as a raffle prize. He agreed to send a driver but when it was getting close to tournament time I hadn't received it. He returned my call checking on it when I was in the back seat of an SUV coming home from golf with friends. He asked me when my next long drive competition event was (obviously mixing me up with someone else). The other guy in the back seat could hear Almo on the phone and had this wtf look on his face. When I hung up he asked who the hell that guy was!
Steve sent the driver but it didn't make it in time so I sold it on eBay. Just kidding. We still included it as a prize and I had to deliver it to the winner a couple days later. The guy had never heard of Geek Golf and didn't seem too thrilled, lol.

LOL! Yeah my wife softened her stance a bit after she met a few local FGI'ers and thought they were all very nice. Of course that went out the window a few times when I would talk to Percy (Dyno) and she could hear him saying "dude, you have a mad sexy voice like Barry White, when are you coming to Canada"
I started on GEA before the 4.
Only heard about FGI because of the first Desert Storm. I was only 1 of 2 from GEA to show up. (That Was Mr Happy for those who remember ...)
The AZ Mafia took pity on me and convinced me to switch allegiance.
I've never looked back.
Some lifelong friends have been from "Men meeting men on the internet"!!!
I probably missed the mention of them in all of these postsโฆ.AccuFlex!
