Yeah, in the discussion on this particular play the argument is that it wasn’t a Hail Mary. The receiver was running a route to the corner of the end zone.
Certainly not your typical Hail Mary where everyone is hand fighting to get in position to jump for the ball.
On this play no one disputes the receiver was held and interfered with. The only debate is even if you think it was a Hail Mary why are there different rules?
We all know the refs swallow their whistles on Hail Mary’s. They don’t want the game to end / decided on a penalty. But again, put me in the camp where this wasn’t your typical Hail Mary.
