Campbell's first-year salary at Penn State is $8 million as part of the $70.5 million guaranteed by the deal, which was inked to run through the 2033 season. Retention bonuses, set to be $1 million annually for each completed year, can lift the total value of the deal to almost $80 million.

Is arrogance part of equation? Definitely along with leverage.
I always said (as a life long fan), people either love them or hate them, like Howard Cosell.

Yup….. And I’m in the camp that likes seeing the players getting a piece of the pie.

Being from New England college football was never that big except for the ivy league rivalry’s (Harvard / Yale etc.). And Doug Flutie lol. Down here in Florida though college football is huge.

propman regular season is great....post season not so much. You have to get to the lower levels of the sport to see what a real bracket and tournament looks like.....tis why college hoops is the bench mark!

Now with the NIL for example a college like Indiana University (thanks to Mark Cuban et al) can compete with an Ohio State etc.. SEC was dominant and college football was becoming too regional.

As someone said they used to have to go in the back door with the money, now with NIL they can go in the front door. lol Now there’s transparency.

Still a little too Wild West, but they’ll figure it out. And again, love that the talent (players) are getting a piece of the pie. Only above board now. Lol

Honestly, I think it's most difficult for me and my geezer friends to adjust our thinking to "modern times". So many positives for the kids who were literally "Meat on the Hoof" (a book about Darrel Royal and Texas football). Now, the actual athletes get to benefit from their efforts rather than the NCAA and respective universities - this includes obscure and other sports including women's sports! I think we struggle with the lacking degree of "loyalty".
But I also remember parking cars at my part-time job while attending Pitt. At the gas station I worked at on Forbes Ave. we'd stop pumping gas and rent-out the entire lot for parking. I didn't quite understand why poor kids from Florida, like Hugh Green and Ricky Jackson were driving Eldorado's. Hmmm, how's that happen?!

Yup… And it’s directly related to wealthy alums / boosters like Mark Cuban for Indiana to compete in the transfer portal (deeper pockets for players) because of NIL.
