Callaway irons opinions

Regardless of age what are the easiest, most forgiving Callaway irons to hit. My neighbor would like a set under $300. Chuck

To me Callaway has always been synonymous with easy to hit irons. I think the x14 pro series was one of their first that didn't look too shovelish with lower offset. Just about any irons labeled Big Bertha should be fairly easy to hit and affordable. Tons of Callaway irons are pretty friendly.

Big Bertha. The 2004 were my favorite. 2002 models can be had cheaper and they're typically easy to find. Those are REALLY forgiving.

Don, thanks but I hope this might be more info than I can digest but it will be fun. I do have 3 questions:

Is actual vcog what I should be looking at? I think the cog is center of gravity but what is the v?
2.the higher the MOI the better...right?
What does MPF stand for

VCOG is the vertical center of gravity measured up from the ground. In this case the lower the better. Anything below .700 is going to help your friend a lot.

The higher the MOI the better.

MPF is Maltby playability factor. Basically if he buys any of the Ultra game improvement models he will be fine. Those will be low Cog and high Moi.

I think what DonM said about .700 VCOG is right on.....

A big part of the MPF is that the Vertical Center of gravity should be lower than the center of gravity of
the golf ball. If a golf ball is 1.68" in diameter, that means the "equator" of the ball is .84". So, any iron that
has a VCOG less than .84 should be easier to get up in the air, esp. for a slow swinger.

Forgot to add the shafts must be graphite as he has a slow swingspeed and is 76 years old but has been playing about 20-25 years.

you are right...have no idea how I missed that. based on the numbers I wonder why they are so easy to hit based on what I have read
