Slant Neck vs. Double Bend Putters

I was just killing time in a local Dick's Sporting Goods this morning while Mrs. Fatshot was shopping, so I'm
looking at putters. I tried an Odyssey mallet with a double bend shaft, a lot like what I've always used, and
then grabbed a Taylormade Spider with a Slant Neck. The Odyssey behaved pretty much like my normal
gamer (a Maltby PTM-5), but the Spider was OMG-unbelievable!!!

I couldn't miss with it.....I know, I know, this ALWAYS happens in the store or pro shop, but is there something
about a slant neck that I don't know about that made this putter work so well for me??

Anybody here use a slant neck with similar results??

fatshot I prefer slant neck putters. I like some toe hang and for whatever reason they just look better than double bend or plumber's neck. I have a Toulon Las Vegas H7 and before that a similar Odyssey 7S Black. I do like the TM slant neck putters as well.

Yup, something about slant necks that look great at address and seem to aid in alignment.

Odd things about slant necks. My Ping Tyne 2 is a slant neck and has probably 1/4 toe hang. Same as my plumbers neck Ping Anser. I put great with both. So the Anser is for, according to Ping, “ slight arc” and the Tyne 2 is “strong arc”. The strong arc makes zero sense because heel shafted putters ( and the slant neck does look more heel shafted at address than the plumbers neck) are full toe hang, the Tyne isn’t. And I am not good with heel shafted putters.

The double bend shaft is usually on a face balanced putter.

So I’m saying you have a slight arc stroke so a putter with 1/4 toe hang is best. What looks best to you amd lines up best is a slant neck. Stick with that

SWMBO has a Mini Spider. The slant neck is a TOTAL turn off for me. Can't stand the look. Bad optics for PapaD.

When I opted for a putter fitting some time back, it was clear that a Flo-neck or Slant-neck would
work best for my 'optics' and stroke. Time after time, the laser proved it. I aimed properly with
those and slightly right of target with a plumbers neck and worse with a center shafted putter.

Once you find your sweet spot, DO NOT CHANGE. (hear that PappaD ?) 😉

Yeah, I forgot to mention that this one had some toe hang, as opposed to the double bend shaft which was
face balanced....

Yep, I've been fitted for putters several times, and every time they say Double Bend. So I used that forever. Went to a PXG fitting, and just loved the visual on a One and Done slant neck. Used that for a year, and then switched to a Closer slant neck this spring. That's the one.

I've made/used both, I always try to get as close to face balanced as possible.
