sdandrea1 I'm always worried that the potential downside of strict government gun control could be that only the bad guys would have the guns.
Doesn’t have to be strict. Just some common sense would go a long way.
The AR15 was developed to be the most lethal weapon to hunt human beings in wars. Not human beings in bowling alleys and bars etc..
How about we give the victims a fighting chance and not allow these weapons of war to be available to the public. We had an assault weapons ban before. Worked pretty well.
There’s 16 million AR15’s out there. It’s the weapon of choice for these mass shooters. We as a country pay a very high price in blood from innocent victims for the right for people to own these weapons of war.
I have no grand illusions we’re ever going to end the gun fetish in this country. In 1968 after the JFK, MLK and RFK assassinations all we could get passed was a watered down handgun law.
The Supreme Court ruled in the Heller case in 2008 that you can own a gun. But municipalities can put on restrictions / limits. So the second amendment isn’t an absolute right with no restrictions.
Polls overwhelmingly show people want common sense gun reform. But the gun lobby has a strangle hold in Washington. So gun manufacturers profits take precedence over public safety.
I don’t think the answer is more guns in the hands of the good people. That was Archie Bunker’s solution to the plane hijacking’s back in the early 70’s. He said just hand out guns to all the passengers before getting on the plane and collect them when they get off.🙄
