I'm sure @rsvman2 would agree, but dependency happens. It's not just alcohol or 'drugs', tobacco, etc.. Your body(& mind) may get used to the fact it has no help, and decides to help itself. If not, and true pain persists, I'd see a doctor about it. Something may need fixed/adjusted/etc. that drugs only 'mask'.
I trained horses for many years. Never ran them, or even exercised them, if they had (true)injuries/pains/sickness/etc.. Let them heal, or got the proper vet work performed. I only ever had but 1 horse that did not win a race(s), due to a cash offer as it was peaking, that could not be refused.
Not so much different than humans.....you are a winner already and can 'win' more.
I've been sitting on my ass all winter, literally doing nothing but 'existing'. I played 2 18 hole rounds over 6 weeks ago and never an ache/pain(shocked). When I went to mow last week, I thought I was going to croak....weak legs, short of breath, seeing demons, life flashes😄. But, from past experiences, I knew not to quit....keep going. Broke 'the wall', got a 2nd wind and felt fine afterwards and the next day. Even did more that day outside.
My mind pushing my body, may well have me laying prone in the yard some day. But, so be it!
