How Sensitive are You to Grip Size?

rsvman2 one of our members has jumbo grips and I tried hitting his driver once or twice. Really weird, had no feel for the head because the grip was so heavy and too big for my hands. Ball goes high right and nowhere .

Typhoon my experience is the same. 40 years of standard hard to break. I have pretty good sized hands. Midsize feels great until I put them into play. I already bought midsize grips to switch out after this season. I’ll have all off season to get used to them

Typhoon I have to admit it feels much better.

To clarify, the ones I had on the iron set were the mid size +4 GP grips(less taper). They were fine but I prefer the 'standard' mid size such as the GP Align or a 360. Depending on butt size & grip brand, I may add a wrap or 2 on the bottom.

I may have to try midsized grips. If I wear a glove, Callaway has me at large, Titleist has me about XL.

Walterjn You should definitely be in midsize at least with that hand size.

Wear a medium / large glove. I've been using the GP MCC plus 4 for several years. Tried a medium grip on my driver once and didn't like it. I could play a standard size with more taper no problem.

Sneakylong I have jumbos on all my irons but use midsize on my driver, 3-wood, and 5-wood.

Thing is we get used to learning with standard grips, demo clubs that all have standard grips, buy used clubs that have standard grips. You just never think that the grip could be a poor fit for you.

Typhoon exactly what I've been doing so far... I'll be investing in midsized grips when I go to regrip my irons, probably later this year.

If I go through the trouble to get an extra stiff shaft, there’s no sense in it not having an oversized tip.. err grip.

Seriously though, just got a set of used irons with standard size grips and I’m not even taking them to the range until I regrip.

Both grip size and grip texture really matter to me. I have smallish hands and tend to sweat a lot, so semi-cord grips are a must.

And thickness does matter. One time I dropped my driver off to have it regripped at Golf Galaxy while out running errands. I picked it up later that day and didn't think much about it. The next day at the range the grip felt awkward. I was losing a lot of shots to the left (hard fade).

I took the grip off at home and not only had they left the old tape on, but they actually added two layers of tape.
So I began replacing the grips myself after that.

Standard grip size for me.

The guy that asked me to play in this past scramble runs his own huge scramble and it’s next Wednesday. Tonite he said one of his guys dropped out and asked me to play. I’d use skinnny assed grips again🙄
