So if your wedge is getting worn, will it generate less spin and fly farther? I've had my wedges longer than recommended now and I use the 60* LW and 56* SW a LOT, but the GW not so much. Lately I am getting unexpected yardage from the LW and SW. I noticed it last year in the LW and now this year the SW. It's not just jumpers from the rough, but from the fairway as well. I rarely take full swings with either and I wouldn't hit a LW more than about 75 and the SW 85, but I could hit them another 15 yards each if I tried. I am now easily hitting the LW 90-100 and the SW is all too often going over 100. They are both in GW yardage.
I don't normally keep clubs long enough to wear them out. I kept the previous wedges maybe 2 seasons, but these have a good 5+ seasons on them. I would have bought a new LW, but Cally discontinued the wide sole low bounce option so I stuck with it. Now I feel like I'm having to back off on shots as 1/2 to 3/4 swings fly too far and around the greens there is hardly any check on chips and pitches. Either my technique has changed a lot or the wedges have. They do look pretty worn and gouged, but I can feel grooves with my fingernails. Time for a change or just more practice?
