How hard is it to pull and replace the shaft on a Ping B90 putter?

north-bc Used to be near impossible, as far I tried. In fact, I never got the job done. They insert a steel ball which is jammed in. I don't think they even use epoxy.
I tried the ol' heat/freeze method also, to no avail.

Never done it, but in talking to a professional about it he told me to put the putter in a freezer for a few days..heat the hosel and pull. If it doesn't come then rinse and repeat.

The only way I've been able to reshaft older PING putters that use the steel ball insert is to drill a small (1/16") hole in the bottom of the hosel (or in this case, the putter sole), while heating the shaft-hosel joint, drive the steel ball up into the shaft with a nail or any steel pin. Once the ball is loose in the shaft, the head should come off.

Lol, f(_)cking Ping....their engineers should all be drug tested. Some of the hosel configs are head scratching to me.

ode They design so they can only work on them. Beholding to Ping. That said they work on their stuff at lil cost to the original owner. Part of protecting their umbrella and working on their stuff. The part they didn't count on over the years is the cost of shipping.

Freezing has worked for me.

It seems like, especially with their iron and hybrids, all requiring a collared ferrule that they are inviting failures. It's not like the collar is their just to cover the countersink part on traditional hosel, it is essentially a shim as there is some goofy taper from the bottom of the hosel to the top. Senseless IMO.

scotts33 And Ping customer service are a bunch of pricks. I had the backweight fall out of a Ping Tisi driver and they charged me to fix it because they said “when I reshafted it on my own I comprised the glue holding the backweight in.

I then had 2 more drivers with back weights fall out. Later, with the TISI TEC they started riveting them in🙄😁. Guess it wasn’t the glue shit for brains.

If you don't need to save the shaft(on the clubs with the ball bearing) cut it off as close as possible to the head. Then use a dremel and a course grit grinding ball to grind away the bearing as it's pretty soft. I used two grinding bits and about 15 minutes.

north-bc, was wondering if you were successful with removing the B90 shaft. Any one else had success and what was your process? Can't stick a broom putter in the freezer :-)

Skip Hmm, I had a B90 and had no problem reshafting it? I bought it used so maybe the guy before me did all the hard work?

Hey Skip, sorry to tell you I've done about as much on it as I have on some of my other projects. Zero. Every so often I drag it out and play with it, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it

I think PING hammers a little ball bearing down the shaft into the hosel to tighten that joint. Don't you have to drill a small hole thru the bottom of the hosel, heat the hosel up and then use a punch to hammer the little ball up into the shaft? I had to do that to an old B60.

sdandrea1 the only way to get to the bottom of the shaft would be through the bottom of the head (see B90 picture below) or cut the shaft with lots of "make it fit again" work following. All possible though...

As I posted above if you don't want/need to save the shaft cut it flush with the hosel and grind out the ball bearing with a Dremel tool and course grinding bit. No alterations to the clubhead.

This is a tough one, if you do not want to drill a hole at the bottom of the putter... if I cut it above the small shaft install hole the shaft might not fit again down through the top hole, as it is the original taper shaft. Would then possibly have to increase the diameter of the top hole.

A little hossel stub for an "over the hossel" installation would have made everyone's life so much easier :-)

Ahhhh, I was unfamiliar with B90. I'd drill thru the bottom, reshaft, plug the hole with epoxy and sand it smooth.
