I don't play enough to have be a fricken clue. I'm guessing weight as I can't play DG on irons anymore, but I could put my TT extra lights in X back in play if I wanted to, but I couldn't load them consistently enough to be happy with them.

Weight but as official geezerdom approaches, flex effect is creeping in.

Flex for me. Weight doesn’t seem to matter much, but I need some liveliness in the tip section of the shaft for some reason and only hit short and weak pushes with too little flex and horrific hooks with too much. Hit my Ping irons with graphites and Alpha irons with Dynamic Golds equally accurate, but the extra overall weight in the shafts seems to give the Alphas a slight distance edge.

Flex affects ball flight and distance; I guess it affects spin. I did need a full year to get my swing back when I went for lighter weight. Going heavier does not seem to be as problematic as going lighter.

Weight with shaft profile and the MoI heft that is the target number to fit correctly and without the heft match correct for end user all bets are off.

In irons, flex and profile is 99% for me. I really struggle with the wrong flex or profile.
In woods, weight seems to affect me more than flex.

One thing I've noticed is that for me, too soft of a shaft leads to fat hits. And too stiff leads to thin hits. My timing gets thrown off somehow by the wrong flex. I can adjust somewhat, but the mis-hits are as I described.

Weight is key for me. I really struggle if the static weight of the club is too light.

Many times I can't what flex I'm hitting. When I demoed my irons the DG 105 R and S felt the same so I got R. It's usually when the profile is really different that I can tell the shaft is different. I had Oban Devotion 7 stiff in a driver I loved, but the Devotion 6 stiff felt like crap to me.

KCee I bought a set of SIM irons with A flex graphite shafts(66g.). Felt like swinging chopsticks, no weight, no feel. I pulled the shafts and discovered the heads were also light per number. Added head weight, built with S flex 100g. steel shafts and they were perfect.

Weight or flex.....is a damn good question. 😅
