My guess is the Saudi money will eventually make its way to the LPGA. Just heard Eamon Lynch say the whole idea behind sportswashing is to numb people.

The more sports they take over the more people will get numb to it and not even think of who’s backing the sport.
As Padraig Harrington said this proves that sportswashing does work.

That is true. But I think they'd love to buy the LPGA. That's sportswashing at it's finest.

The PGA Tour meeting was very contentious says Johnson Wagner who listened in. He said several confronted Monahan and got standing ovations. Was called a hypocrite.

Said the room was split about 90 to 10 as far as Monahan friendly. 90% being hostile. One player recited back Monahan’s own words at the 3M tournament last regarding LIV.

Sounds like they had to jump the gun before the story got leaked. Probably why details are lacking.

So I have an honest question. How are you guys who were so anti LIV going to react to this? Sneaky and Eguller are two who come to mind as being most outspoken against it. Are you going to quit watching the PGA? Do you give in? Have we seen the end of Golfbuzz major contests? I'm curious how you guys wrap your heads around this?

Eguller This year's 2 remaining Majors Contests will be the last I'll be doing. Like MLB, NBA, NFL, etc. they've lost me.

See my earlier post. We need the details that will come out soon, but I’m not hopeful. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘give in’ ? I believe it is for the detriment of golf either way. I don’t even care about the World Series or NBA Finals anymore. Shame.

Obviously I’m disappointed. Naively thought Monahan believed in what he was saying. But in the end money trumped morality. I’m as shocked by this as anyone. Looking back Monahan using the 9/11 families as pawns is disgusting.

So lots to digest, don’t have all the details yet. I stopped watching basketball because of nothing political, but because it became a game of one on one and 3 point shots. I know one thing if I hear that growing the game is the main reason for this I’m going to puke.

I'm against LIV and I don't care. The merger was unexpected but I'm never surprised at selfish behavior. Monahan is just one of many on a long list of greedy SOBs.

This may have been said before, but my bet is the PGA attorneys told them their case did not look favorable and the PGA bailed.

Gary, my initial perspective is The Open, Masters and LPGA could keep me busy enough.

The Senior Tour, maybe, but probably not.

The only voice I have in anything is where I spend my money whether it be a companies products or TV.

Viewership is my investment/ money in a sport. I have given up other viewer sports for various reasons and find myself now being drawn to the minor college sports.

You can put me in that camp. I didn't like LIV for the way it divided the game. Most big money deals have some form of"dirty" associated with it. I didn't like the Saudi influence, but it wasn't my main objection to LIV.
Now, as it pertains to the new venture. I am disgusted with the PGA for the hypocritical nature they have shown by doing the same thing they preached against for 2 years. I decided to stop watching PGA golf after Brooks won the PGA Championship because the fact that the best players were not playing against each other week in and week out. Now, I have no respect for the PGA/LIV/DP and will no longer watch any of them on a regular basis. I may tune in for the Majors but haven't fully made up my mind.

Yeah, I’m hearing the legal battle was a big reason to make a deal. LIV was failing, but had the money to outlast the PGA Tour in court. And although the PGA Tour seemed to have the upper hand they didn’t have the money the Saudis have.

And it’s ironic that one of LIV’s legal arguments was that the PGA Tour was a monopoly. So we’ll see what the DOJ has to say about this proposed merger.
