Pinnacle Soft already meets proposed rollback

In this video, 2nd Swing tests the Pinnacle Soft vs ProV1 and ProV1x at 109 MPH swing speed. They said Acushnet told them that the Pinnacle Soft basically meets the proposed rollback requirements.

Executive summary: Pinnacle spun 400 rpm less, actually too little for the guy, and it flew lower. It had a bit less ball speed, and 11-12 yards less carry. Roll out took it almost as far as the premiums.

There must be other soft balls that are about the same. I wonder how many people who are angry about the proposed rollback are already playing a ball that meets the proposal.

DonM When you drop down to senior curmudgeon driver SS of 90 mph and below the difference is even less. I haven't met to many seniors in my peer group that worry about spin from a golf ball on approach shots usually we are running them on the green. Much ado about nothing for rec. golfers. 😊

Actually, the same for the Pros imo. I doubt they really care if they can only hit 290, or even 280 off the tee being they will be more able to control the ball. They still can carry 14 clubs and will find the club to fire on the pins as they do now. It's not too hard for them to hit an iron 250, if they need to.

Now, if they make them use 2 pc. balls with surlyn covers & 40 compression, then we may have a whole 'nother ball game! 🤣

Subsonic I've played the Rush. May be 1 of the best cheaper balls around. Long off the tee and goes great off the fw, and do not feel hard when hit with any club. Not much imo to complain about.
They are not Exceptions, but they also are not Golds.
Never tried the soft.

The Pinnacle Soft and Rush are pretty good. They sell a lot of them at my home course.
Many years ago, I started golf playing Pinnacle Gold. I had no complaints with them except around the green, but the Exception was something special.

braveheart People always complain about the TF balls being Rock Flites. I can say those people never played the Gold. But damn, they would fly faster/farther than Superman, at times.
The Exception was the 2nd love of my life. I had met my wife before finding them. She was lucky to be 1st. 🤣

I played Pinnacle Gold balls for several years. I liked them and didn't have much trouble holding green with
them either. Back then I hit the ball so high that it seemed to hold the greens even without much spin.

mulegolf I could have written the exact same thing. It helped that the greens were often soggy and the incoming ball would make a giant crater.

The greens I play now, we have to hunt for ball marks, and I no longer hit super high like that.

I imagine almost all the low compression balls will meet the new standard. As the Mygolfspy testing showed, low is slow , as in ball speed. So the rollback won't really affect most of us unless your playing a premium urethane ball.

They better do more testing.
I recently bought some Wilson Duos, 40some compression, and they are longer than almost every 70-100 compression ball I've ever hit!!

And before Scott comes along and says that is because I swing slower, I had Jake hit some.
They still haven't come down.

I trust their science. They find the soft balls carry less but roll out more to get about the same distance. And soft balls can be longer off irons. But there are always outliers. I get really good distance from the cally soft but I rely on roll, hitting a 7 degree driver. I'm an outlier too as general rule of thumb says seniors should play more loft for more distance. All I get is higher and shorter.
