Senior Shafts vs. Ladies Shafts

In general, I was wondering how much difference there is between senior graphite shafts and ladies graphite shafts?

I've been thinking about trying hybrids for some of my irons. Today, I took my wife's clubs to the range for a friend's girlfriend to use and I thought I'd try them myself. They were pretty easy to hit so I'm thinking about putting a couple in my bag. They're actually a little longer in club length than my current irons. I'd need to put new grips on them since they're at least 10 years old (my wife doesn't play).

There are even big differences within the senior shafts themselves.....brand-brand, weight-weight. I can't use a ladies, much too 'loose'. OTOH, I can't use some seniors, too 'tight'.
And the (dedicated as) hybrid shafts just compound the issue. Most are just too stiff (imo) to be called 'A' flex.

There's no way to be sure because there no standard for measuring shaft flex. A manufacturer's regular flex could have the same frequency profile as another company's shaft labeled stiff or x-stiff.

I've found the biggest difference between those genres are not so much flex, but shaft weight. I've played quite a few ladies flex shafted clubs with temporary success, but eventually they end up being too light. Swing gets off plane and the spraying begins.

It's flex for me. I've been experimenting with one in my driver (see my old Autoflex thread). When I time it up I get my longest drives. But there are times I can feel the head lagging then the shaft snaps shut shooting the ball way left with a draw to boot. No Bueno. It's not worth one OB for even 3 longer drives. It does feel nice though.
Senior shafts are like R flex to me just a tad softer. But the difference between A flex and L.flex is pretty big.
Of course whether you're a smooth swinger or have one of those violent no follow through senior swings will make a difference too

I’ve found a good combo for some seniors has been a Ladies head on a senior shaft. The Ladies clubheads are lighter and work good with a senior shaft.

Mine weren't any more expensive than most new clubs. I searched the internet and bought parts from several sites.
The irons came direct from Japan and all of the clubs I bought for about half the price of new. Most were considered
used but they were listed as shop worn. They hadn't been hit but had been handled while on display. They had a couple small smudges on them but no real scratches.

Typhoon I have never found any shaft by UST to be even close to awesome. Usually too tip stiff in every flex.
Their best ever was the MP6.

Typhoon A friend has one of the newer cobra drivers with that shaft in reg. I have never hit it, but I've swung it a few times..feels fairly substantial.

sdandrea1 I fit a ton of seniors and even regular flex people into this shaft. Very stable and accurate shaft. Nano tech helps keep the spin down.

You’re right, nothing works for everyone but I like to point people toward shafts I see that work well for golfers that don’t have a lot of clubhead speed… like a lot on here.

No one has addressed this yet but shaft fitting is largely driven by release (early-mid-late) and transition time. If you don't know those you keep going down the same path and get lucky on a shaft fitting you correctly.

backinit It’s actually one of my favorite shafts to hit in regular flex during downtime at fittings. I’d love to grab one out of the fitting matrix but I have enough stuff for now to get rid of. I found a Golf Shaft Traders group on FB that I think I’ll list a bunch of shafts on.
