However, that was a motley crowd yesterday and they should have stayed behind the ropes, imo.

Very rarely are you likely to have the situation where a guy needs a number to win while the next guy is done. It just seemed like a very hectic situation that nobody else had to face.

Yes but... We were seeing what the camera was 'witnessing'. Might not have been the same or similar from Clark's perspective;. I'd imagine he'd be lost in his own head and trying to maintain focus?

Has anyone seen or heard an explanation as to why Rory's ball being "stuck" in the lip of the sand trap at the end of the day on Sunday was not a penalty stroke for him when removed and dropped??? Did I miss something???

raggmann54 I didn’t see it. If it’s embedded in the soil above the sand line, it’s a free drop under the embedded ball rule.

raggmann54 I never saw it, but heard my son talking about it and looked it up.

The reason given (this is just internet info, not necessarily official) was that the ball was considered to be embedded in "a general area". Apparently the place it was embedded in wasn't considered part of a hazard. I don't know if it was really embedded, or if it was a Patrick Reed dimple, but that was the explanation. Was there endless replay and long discussion about the integrity of the game by Brandel? 😆

raggmann54 embedded ball. It was not imbedded in the sand/bunker, so drop without penalty.

Happened to Hovland and Connors at the PGA...same rule. It may have looked suspect because of how hairy the surrounds of the bunkers are at LACC + the optics of Rory and playing partners/caddies frantically looking for his ball. It was definitely imbedded and proper relief taken.

Definitely thought that should have been unplayable. Not saying they didn't follow the rule but that the rule sucks. If you're hitting into something that crappy you shouldn't get a drop. Pull it out of the mark it's in ( btw Rory seemed to get that thing out awful easily for an imbedded ball) and place it back in the junk and play away, or take the penalty. Would have been a shame if Rory gets that up and down and wins while Clark had to take two hacks at his to get it out.

No, clearly I heard the crowd via the broadcast. I'm simply trying to convey none of us knowing what degree or level of disturbance it was for him. Might he have been able to have that energy positively affect his focus? I won't claim to know that.

garyt1957 it's a straight forward ruling, sometimes the golfer gets lucky, but overwhelmingly breaks like that are the exception. He played by the rules as he should have, just like Connors and Hovland at the PGA. Part of the design at LACC was all that longer grass around the bunker face/edge which led to that sort of turf condition. If all that long grass wasn't there, it likely carroms off and into the bunker. He must have hit it in the perfect spot on that bunker face.for it to embed.

It is irrelevant, as only the last 2 golfers had to endure that BS, hence the question of fairness, which is gary's point.
