raggmann54 I never saw it, but heard my son talking about it and looked it up.
The reason given (this is just internet info, not necessarily official) was that the ball was considered to be embedded in "a general area". Apparently the place it was embedded in wasn't considered part of a hazard. I don't know if it was really embedded, or if it was a Patrick Reed dimple, but that was the explanation. Was there endless replay and long discussion about the integrity of the game by Brandel? 😆
