I said earlier, I expected a comment similar to your's, just without the Holier than Thou tone.
There are some logical reasons, for open-minded people, for this local rule which became evident once I started playing. But it is evident with your diversion to the history of sheep and golf, you aren't interested in any remote explanation and I won't waste time for either of us.
Enjoy hitting out of sheep shit and I'll enjoy my Senior Grey Crap Tour played by those whose sole goal is to stain the game by cheating and minimizing the true spirit of the game.
Oh, by the way..........please remember this discussion and don't play under lift, clean and place conditions. (You should expect that comment.) That is a local rule and totally implemented to make the game more fun and playable. A purest and golfer with years of experience should know which way a ball will move with mud on it. The rub of the green? (Exceptions rule 16.3 and 25.1 of course.)
Lift clean and place was not an option when your sheep grazed.
Nice attitude "as some people still play golf."
