This Tiger Woods revelation left Scottie Scheffler speechless.
Definitely remember him taking divots throughout his career....maybe he has become a picker later in his career
Interesting article....thanks for sharing!
[unknown] Iām with you on this.
Maybe taking divots hurts his back, it sometimes does mine. But then the courses I play on aren't in great shape
like the ones he plays.
Tom Watson was know for hardly brushing the grass also.
how much compression and backspin does a player of his caliber lose by not taking a solid divot ?
When I was a kid I remember watching my dad practice on the concrete we poured for the basketball standard. He would put a nickel on the concrete and then take his 7-iron and swing it, with the goal of just grazing the top of the nickel enough that you could hear the click but it would stay in place or only move a tiny bit. He would miss over the top of it sometimes, but I can remember him making that clicking sound over and over again.
I think that practice helped him tremendously with low-point control. He was a good player and is still pretty good at 90. He started shooting his age about 17 years ago and can't count how many times he has done it.
It amazes me all the people jumping all over this. Tiger was trolling (some)... If you watch the other videos in the series he still doesn't "share" his swing tips/thoughts completely. It's bits and pieces here and there.
I can tell you, he was taking divots on the range at Augusta. He was also not taking divots during some periods, mostly when working on flighting his ball differently. Mostly, the "no divot" thing is something he does to eliminate impact pressure on his body (back) for longer sessions.
2019 Memorial wedge on up. I wouldn't say those are deep divots by any stretch. Now in the past early 2000's did he take a deep divot when needed sure but by and large over the last few years I take him at his word in the article. Point is many pro's don't take deep divots with a more narrow sole with good iron sole turf interaction that what rec. golfers don't get fitted correctly for. They fit their swing to the equipment not the other way around. BTW how do you get "fitted" for irons on mats indoors?
Tiger is bad at picking wives and girlfriends apparently. But he's still picking.
He may not be bad at picking them, he's just bad at sticking to one at a time.
